Rumour has had it Phil Knight was very impressed with Scott Frost in the past. Also that Knight allegedly financed the buyout of Helfrich (when it was theoretically going to happen).

FWIW, the "promotion from within" thing kind of went out the window around the Gary Crowton era. Kelly had no ties to Oregon when he came in as OC, neither did Helfrich under Kelly. Frost had no prior ties to Oregon before becoming a position coach.

The "Oregon ties" thing was true of Brooks, Belotti, Aliotti and some long term position coaches.

Very odd press release indeed. They need to do less.

Oregon needs to continue to embrace their brand for their next hire. If they don't go for Chip Kelly or Scott Frost, it needs to be a spread disciple. The locals have very little patience for anything else if they don't win, and they sure as shite can't lose to the Beavers. As a t-shirt Beavs fan it's been an entertaining week for sure.

tua's a perfect fit for what they've been doing there, actually

unless Les goes and turns him into a fricking fullback

Tua wouldn't be looking at PT for several years.

Oregon needs a spread offense unless their recruiting is miraculously going to include the largest strongest fastest athletes for the first time.

Good OC, good guy, nice guy. Not a good head coach. Took what Oregon did the past 15 years and threw it down the toilet in 2 seasons

This was his fourth season and went 33-8 in three years before this season.

Oregon got a little trigger happy IMO with what they have coming back.

It was more than the record. They'd been slipping in all the little things for his tenure. They were sloppy. Mariota covered up for a lot of that. Then the LOIC type stuff began happening. Some of that has been getting exposed in the Eugene media of late. I'm sure that factored in. The previous two coaches would have bounced several of these players before it got to where it got to under Helf.

You have no idea what you're asking for. Chip made him who he was but isn't there anymore to hold his hand.

No thanks!

So you don't know Helfrich's history prior to Oregon?
