why not? it's not like they need him for the bowl game.
If they wait and Jim says no, they might as well call Brady back.

49ers will want compensation to let him go
What can Michigan give?
Harbaugh is not giving up that cash if let go.
Michigan would have to wait until December and a lot of candidates will back out by then

Recruiting/stability is the biggest thing. Plus, Mich would be playing with fire that he doesn't change his mind, which some people believe happened in '11.

If Michigan doesn't announce anything, I guess everyone would know it's Harbaugh and he could get grilled the next month (or two if they make a playoff run) at pressers about the situation, but that seems like a clusterf---. But maybe it doesn't matter because SF didn't re-up with him, anyway. (on edit, somebody says he is under contract through '16).

Why would Harbaugh, who has been very successful in the NFL, leave the NFL to go back to coaching college football? what would be the main reason? He is still going to work his arse off while coaching at Michigan.

All of this.

He can get almost any NFL job he wants, besides those such as New England, New Orleans, among others that have upper echelon coaches.

My question also.

Even though both parties want to split, he is still under contact through 2016.

Where is your proof of that? Or should I say, what's your reasoning behind that statement?
