Grade the Muschamp Hire

This is sort of like grading a student's final exam without knowing how he analyzed the questions. Florida probably knew more about Muschamp before they ever talked to him than anybody here hopes to know, and they would have done a ton of homework on him from the moment (probably some time ago) when they knew, or suspected, that CUM might take off. So go ahead, assign a grade. Just be fair and acknowledge that it's a little like grading an exam based on penmanship rather than content.

Like 8-4 or 7-5...thats how. After a few years of this he will be out!

D-

Florida really screwed themselves up with this.

I would expect a Georgia Tech or Texas A&M school to make a hire like this, not Florida.

Big negatives that I see

1) Dude has ZERO head coaching experience! UF is fine with this?

2) While he is a very "rah-rah" type of guy, I never really saw anything during his time at UT that said "wow, this guy is gonna be great!" He's solid, I admit, but nothing that puts him over the Petrino and Harbaugh's of the college football landscape?

3) Recruiting is supposedly one of his stronger suits, but UF doesn't have to do very much to get the top level athletes at their program.

4) UF has historically been about out dueling you on offense - the school seems to always get great young talent on offense that gives the SEC fits. Now, you're changing to a defensive-minded coach/philosophy.

I don't know - I just think he's going to be average at best, which is totally unacceptable for their program.

Agreed, exactly.

Two additional points:

1. Foley had the perfect fit in Mullen and didn't go after him because he didn't like Mullen leaving to take the HC position at MSU. An adolescent pissing contest that will ultimately cost Foley his job.

2. Where is Urban going to be over the next few years? Sitting in Gainesville criticising Muschamp's program and giving non-denials that he is interested in coaching (at UF) again? We know what a classy guy Meyer is, I can just hear the pot shots now.

Miles won't have to worry about playing Florida from the eastern division every year now.

C - I am surprised that Florida, which everyone states is a premier job, did not hire a premier coach with HC experience.

Time will tell.

I'm going to grade it a B- for now.

Keep in mind, he was due to take over another high profile university any year.

From the B-, he can work his way up or down but he may need 2 or 3 years just like anybody else who comes in including coaches with hc experience. Meyer needed two years with a loaded team.

I guarantee you though... Foley will kick his arse to the curb if he drops below a C after his second year.

B+

This isn't the typical coordinator hire. Muschamp has been at major programs and has been head coach in waiting. Does it really matter if he didn't coach at a bad bcs school for a couple of years? What really matters is the staff he puts together.

C+ with the potential to be an A if he hires a solid staff. It's hard to grade a coach based off of a PC.

C+ to a B-. No one knows how he will do. There are some people that are better asst coaches than the head coach, so we will see. His defense sucked last year though

He's one of the best recruiters in the country, and has coached at some of the best programs in the nation.

He knows how to recruit in the SEC, and he knows how to play defense.

He knows the pressure of major programs.

And he isn't a flight risk to the NFL like Petrino and JH. At least not right now.

I don't personally like the guy, he talks about himself in the 3rd person, but I'll give it a C+ for now, with a chance to go higher depending on the staff.

Dooley will turnout to be a great hire. He is extremely intelligent and is a great recruiter. Muschamp will be a A-.

Good point. At any other school, a statue of LM would have already been built if he had produced the way he has at LSU.

The coaching staff still had a unique offensive philosophy that worked extremely well for them. The fact that they had good defenses doesn't mean that they are a defensive oriented/pound-you-in-the mouth style. UF almost always implements a wide open offense going back to Spurrier.

And you can go yourself, dude.

"historical" is bullshite. if florida was going for the most historical look, theyd go back pre-spurrier and get their teeth kicked in by everyone--- but that aint happening. programs evolve.

pound-you-in-the mouth style
one misconception about CUM was they were finesse. he liked to pound the football with the tank tim tebow. they had little RBs but mostly b/c they were the most dynamic- but they also ran tough.

we can agree to disagree, but knocking the hire b/c hes going against their "historical" philosophy that barely goes back 20 years is a bad take. not exactly bill callahan taking away the black shirts and removing the triple option offense out of the playbook...
