Agreed. You beat Arkansas State, you deserve the LSU job. There’s no two ways about it.

Napier will be the next LSU head coach. As for a one point win over Arkansas State, Bill Arnspargar lost to Miami of Ohio and he was the best coach at LSU that wasn’t named Saban.

Miami of Ohio never has played the Dolphins. Because thats where Arnsparger was coaching before he took the LSU job

Did you get your Miamis mixed up?

1986-Miami of Ohio beat LSU in Tiger Stadium. Most of the posters on this board weren’t alive and probably never heard of Arnspargar. He was a hell of a coach and LSU was lucky to have him.

RobbBobb, he is correct Miami OH beat LSU in Baton Rouge in 1986 when Arnspargar was HC of the Tigers. I was a student in the stands….. we were in complete shock. Arnspargar has to be the best coach at LSU not named Saban in last 40 years.

I'm totally lost at this point

So a game at LSU, where Arnsparger was already hired as the coach, and lost, should not have kept him from being hired?

Because posters are worried about the poor game Napier just coach means hes not ready for an elite program

Pretty sure he is saying even great coaches can lose a game that should not happen. Have to look at the whole body of work.

The point is that great coaches can squeak by or even lose to less talented teams occasionally. Yes, Arnspargar was the coach and a great one at that. My post was to show the absurdity of those that think Napier isn’t a good choice for LSU because of a one point road win at Arkansas St.

Thats just a cop out. Bill was in his last year at LSU. Last year of college coaching, in fact. He was tired and not sufficiently motivated any longer

So to compare that to Napiers game tonight, is not the way to win anyone over. The worse thing he could do is to show Woody that he pounds the rock, just like Les Miles

You better go check your info. Arnsparger was the coach at LSU when we lost to Miami of Ohio in 86.

Yeah, thats kinda the point

Arnsparger was in his last year. Napier is trying to get the job. Fans were OK with Bill retiring after losses like that. Fans arent OK with hiring Napier after games like that

Not a cop out and Arnspargar wasn’t tired or unmotivated. Went 9-3 overall, 5-1 in conference and got beat by a very good Nebraska team in the Sugar Bowl.

Of course. However, ULL has already squeaked by Nicholls, Georgia Southern, South Alabama, and Arkansas State this season.

Somebody posted earlier today how much Napier has improved ULL's recruiting since he has been there. According to 247, they've had the best recruiting class in the Sun Belt for the last 3 years. Shouldn't they be handling these less talented teams by now?

uhhh, his nickname was 2 reel Bill, because he only wanted to watch 2 hours of film each week. Most games lasted that long. Let alone replays

He never prepped for bowl games, and lost all 3 of them. He was done with coaching. Bob Brodhead wrote a book about it. Arnsparger got him fired, so he could get his job, and get out of coaching. he ended up getting the UF AD job instead
