There's no fricking way he wins enough to keep his job next year, at least not enough to justify a contract extension.

Plot twist: he goes 8-5 again but this time beats LSU and gets a 10 year extension

If Chavis is still around next year (and, let's face it, with that contract he will be), Sumlin may not even make it through the season. They lose Garrett, Hall and a lot of their secondary players this year.

I have a feeling that, if Chad Morris wins the conference with SMU next year (which is entirely possible), Sumlin will be fired at the first sign of failure.

See, I think you guys need a defensive mind, someone like Saban or Stoops. Although, if Fedora is still available next season around this time, I think he'll have a hard time turning down you guys.

Fedora is who we could have had after the 2011 season, but instead we went with the coach he beat by 3 touchdowns to win the championship.

I was at that game . . . so heartbreaking to be that close to the BCS and let it drip away.

I like Fedora but for whatever reason LSU fans were completely against him.

Can you imagine the trolling from A&M OUCH. would be 10 times worse than Chavis

Fedora hates defense, is an average recruiter, and is a slimy evangelical.

Good coach but not what LSU needed.

That being said, he would've been better than the shrimp boat captain we hired.

A&M wouldn't have a bad arse barbershop if Fedora was the head coach

Think about THAT

I'd rather have Sumlin than Fedora. I actually think Sumlin is a pretty good coach. The West is just a motherfricker right now. They haven't taken that next step yet, but they've been pretty goo do every year. I can certainly understand not wanting to accept 8-5 every year, but it could be worse. It could be way worse. I think I'd keep him as long as they are recruiting well.

You're right. K State is a bitch in the SECW.

Really? It looked like kind of down year to me. Bama has clearly separated itself from the pack.

Ole Miss is losing a top-shelf QB and has sanctions looming
Arkansas looks like they may have plateaued a bit
A&M is losing a bunch of players and they are kind of in rinse and repeat mode
MSU is, at best, "OK"
LSU has become the poster-child for unrealized potential over the last 5 years and now just hired a HC who no other power program would consider as their HC
Auburn is a wildcard. They could be shite or great. Who knows?

The West is still good. But other than Bama, there is no clear juggernaut in the division.

I'll just add that KS's decision to attempt that long FG instead of going for it, under the circumstances of how his season went, was a horrible HC decision. At 8-4, he had nothing to lose by going for it; by making it & possibly/probably winning, 9-4 sounds a whole lot better going into the off season.

Why not just fire him now?

Sumlin has a buyout of 5 million dollars per year. Chavis has his own contract that is not tied to Sumlin's.

Paying off buyouts larger than a certain amouny require a unanimous vote by the Board of regents.

Since Jim Wilson, the idiot responsible for that contract, is still a regent...

I'll be sad when jackass sumlin finally gets fired. I'll miss that auto win.
