FSU president: Jimbo Fisher will not leave Seminoles for Auburn
Andrew Carter | Sentinel Staff Writer
4:33 PM EST, December 6, 2008
Florida State University offensive coordinator and head-football-coach-in-waiting Jimbo Fisher will not leave the Seminoles to become the head coach at Auburn, FSU President T.K. Wetherell told the Orlando Sentinel on Saturday afternoon.
Wetherell said Fisher, the Seminoles' offensive coordinator and designated successor to head coach Bobby Bowden, had not talked to Auburn officials and that he would not talk to Auburn officials about their head coaching vacancy.
"He has not talked to Auburn and will not talk to Auburn," said Wetherell, who said he'd spoken with Fisher earlier in the day on Saturday.
Wetherell said that Fisher told him he wants to be the head coach at Florida State, and that he has no plans to leave.

Fisher's "statement"
"Auburn has not contacted me or my agent and we have not contacted them," Fisher told ESPN.com. "I'm very happy at Florida State. I'm very content at Florida State and I'm happy to be here."

BOTTOM LINE: This statement isn't very strong.

Bobby Bowden will not retire until after Paterno, so that he can try & get the all time wins record. That may be several years from now- Fisher would be a fool not to consider a better position at Auburn than wait at Crimminal U. Same goes for Muschamp at Texas- he could be waiting 10 years on Brown...

I think in terms of location in the state relative to UF and Miami, that the success that Bowden has had there is in defiance of the natural recruiting trends. There is no non-Bowden tradition of success at that school, and there likely won't be after he's gone, unless he is succeeded by a younger version of himself, a larger than life coach who can overcome what should be the natural order of things in Florida.

This makes Jimbo look like a done deal to me. Especially considering Sexton is his agent.
Seems to make me think of Jimbo's buddy saying, I will not be the coach at Alabama!
