Perkins coached at Arkansas State for a short time in the early '90's, if I'm not mistaken. This reminds me of another former Alabama coach...Wimp Sanderson. Wimp coached for a while during the '90's at UALR (Little Rock) after he left Alabama. I was employed there at the time. What a character! He did a television show with "always smiling" Steve Sullivan at the time. Wimp was always grumpy and frowning. It was a hoot!

He was the head coach at Arkansas State in 1992. That was in-between NFL stints with the Bucs, as head coach, and the Patriots, as OC.

I knew it wasn't for very long, but I remember it. Just couldn't remember the year. I think it's great that Coach Perkins still has the desire to coach.

I agree with that, but taking down the tower had nothing to do with Perkins's success or failure.
Bryant was and still is gone. The tower wasn't some mystical magical spell spinner.
Some coaches like a closer personal approach to their coaching.
Nick would croak if he coudn't get into the face of his players.
