This ONLY hurts LSU. Kelly still gets his money.

Not if he agrees to 20 million or so less in his buyout.

What happens when the donors to his NIL say "NO" and we don't get any portal transfers,
Then Kelly has a built in excuse. And LSU becomes viewed publicly as a program who can’t keep up with the rest of college football.

He won’t “accept” a lower buyout.
He will be paid a lower buyout because the money he makes coaching a different school in 2026 and beyond reduces his LSU buyout on a dollar for dollar basis. His contract could not be more clear on that point.
He just as clearly has to use due diligence to find another job. If he doesn’t, LSU can arguably reduce his buyout by the amount he should making right at another school.
So he won’t get anywhere near $54 million from LSU, even via his monthly payments until December 2031 (he gets no lump sum whatsoever), regardless of what he’s willing to “accept.”
