Of course not. I wouldnt dare try and that.

your thoughts on the spread being the only way to beat bama=wrong
The only way? Last 5 seasons (6) losses. They speak for themselves. Give it whatever weight you chose.
quote:
your thoughts on Jimbo not running the spread= wrong
The author here agrees with me that, Jimbo is primarly a pro-style coach. And that he's resistant to spread concepts.
quote:
your opinion on Jimbo's offense being outdated= wrong
Again, as per the author, "Not that I tend to be a believe that any coach has to embrace the spread offense, but it is a bit troubling to see Fisher so resistant to the concepts".
Just telling you what the man said.

Whoa there on Auburn. Albeit short lived, they have had a bit more recent success than LSU
You sure about that CLARK?
Just a few weeks ago they were firing their coach until he beat a crawly Miles coached team.
Auburn has been average with that type of offense.

No you're not. We are TD brothers. And more importantly Tiger fans! We all want whats best for the program. We just disagree on what that is.

My biggest thing is be something close to a balanced power team. Now do we have to use a fullback to be power of course not. To go all out spread West Virginia style would be stupid but I think who ever the coach is that comes in they will have the ability to change concepts based on strengths and weaknesses of our team and the opponent. Les is one of the few college coaches I have seen that didn't have this ability

I dont care if run the ball 99% of the time. Spread teams out and do it. Even in the red zone, it can effective.

To stop a pro style offense, you need big LBs that can stuff the run, To stop the spread you need faster (usually smaller) LBs. Saban's teams in the past have been built to stop a pro style, but have heard him mention going to smaller faster LBs to stop spread, since thats what they have "struggled" with. If that happens, we would be good to stay with pro style. Basically, having a different offense than everybody else isnt a bad thing as long as its balanced.

Spread offense isn't the great equalizer, great QB play is the great equalizer against Saban

true, thats why i said you need balance, regardless of your style. You have to be able to mix the pass and run, and spread their defense out and make them run side to side and not just let them attack up field every play . You obviously cant just run straight into it like LSU has been doing lately.

What I like about his offense is he always has the ability to run the I formation, and he can also spread the field.

Im not a fan the track me style spread either. But I do like the Power-Spread concepts used by Kiffin, Ohio State, and even Clemson to some degree.
I think Jimbos offense could mix some elements of that in pretty easily though.

I would sit back and shut my arse up if he did

Their offense is literally the power spread. You come as an idiot when you say one of the original power spread teams only runs it to "some degree"

Oh I'm sorry. I didnt mean to come off like a idiot. I'm just learning to be less committal with some terms. All it does is attract more debate and dissension. But you win. :)

I would tend to agree with you to an extent.
Fisher does a fine job with what he does...my personal preference would be a guy that is willing to incorporate RPO's into what he does and one of my primary concerns both last year and this year with Fisher is his refusal to include them in his offense. Plenty of pro teams have incorporated packaged plays and rpo concepts into their offenses.
Can he be successful with what he does currently? Of course, he has the stats and wins to prove it, I'm just concerned by his rigidity with regards to something that started popping up in the game about a decade ago in the nfl and then spread to other levels.

Bama is NOT offense first. They will always be built around defense. But Saban has adapted to more modern offensive ideas, but he still believes in being able to run the ball.
No I agree. That was typo. Going to edit.
