I am on tigerdroppings every day. I am very opinionated about the coaches I want and don't want.

I wanted Tom Herman
I hated the Orgeron hire.
I loved the Canada hire.
I had never heard of Brady and was unimpressed.
I thought Aranda was the best defensive coordinator in college football but we rarely had a top defense.

I think I will let our coaches decide who is the best coach and fit for this team. You never know how these coaches will perform especially with the talent that LSU brings to the table.

Let's just let it play out. I think our national championship coaching staff deserves the benefit of the doubt at this point.

Geaux Tigers!!!

Update: This was not the purpose of this thread but here is some objective data on Aranda.
LSU total Defensive Rankings:
2016: 5th
2017: 14th
2018: 26th
2019: 33rd

I agree with your point but not your logic

Because you liked a bad hire doesn’t mean it wasn’t a bad hire.. so Canada kinda shows this isn’t a perfect process

I love the “he hates recruiting!!1” takes on coordinators.

Coordinators don’t do a whole lot of off campus recruiting outside of the home visits. People assume Dave hates recruiting because he’s a quiet philosophical guy.

Still trying to figure out the downvotes like Dave Aranda didn’t carry our arse for 3 years of his tenure here

I got to this point in 1999 when Saban was hired. All I knew about him was he got his arse blown out by a Dinardo LSU team in the Indy Bowl. I figured this new guy, Emmert, seems smart, let's give the little guy a chance.

Then UAB happened and I had my doubts. The Tennessee game the next week brought me back around.

Since then, I figure I don't know shite about shite when it comes to CFB coaching hires, and it turns out, neither does the Internet. So now I just sit back and watch what happens.

That's a gross oversimplification of Aranda to say the least. Not to mention total defense isn't necessarily the best stat measurement for a DC.

Take a look at many other factors such as:

1) changing of head coaches
2) impact to recruiting based on #1
3) how shitty was the offense through most of those years.
4) who do we play on a regular basis vs other teams ranked ahead of us.

Not going to say Aranda was a God of Defense but he was well in to the great/elite level of DCs in the country.

I wanted Tom Herman - I didn't love Herman, but thought he was a better hire than O.
I hated the Orgeron hire. Definitely agree here. Thought it reeked of settling.
I loved the Canada hire. Mostly liked it.
I had never heard of Brady and was unimpressed. Agree. He was never a high profile guy with the Saints.
I thought Aranda was the best defensive coordinator in college football but we rarely had a top defense. I still think he's one of the best.

So with all that said, I'll let O do his thing. But I still think expecting Curtis Johnson to do anything more than Coach WRs and recruit is a mistake.

Is this a less simplified version of our defense getting worse every year. I appreciate everything Aranda did for the Tigers but he was trending in the wrong direction. He was getting worse every year in every defensive category.

You bring up the bad offenses as a reason the defense was ranked lower. We just had the best offense in the history of college football and our defense was the worst it's been in his tenure. I know they played great at the end but the offense saved his butt this year.

fricking Christ, the last 3-4 games of this year were arguably among the best performances of his tenure.

LSU fans are the worst.

Ahh yes. I forget how carrying the team for the past few years and then winning a championship when the offense finally gets updated is considered trending in the wrong direction.

If stats were the end all to what makes a coach great or elite then many coaches would have never been given a chance or second chance.

I would be curious to hear your thoughts on how many games Aranda kept us in or won for us throughout his LSU tenure vs how many they lost or almost gave away for us because at the end of the day that's the stay that I truly care about. It would be hard to judge 2019 because the offense was so prolific but looking at 2016-2018 I would like to hear your thoughts on those years.

This is because people look at a bunch of numbers and consider that the end all be all to what makes an elite coach when in reality it's only a portion of what actually matters.

Ok you win. Dave was the best defensive coordinator in football. It doesn't matter that we were worse in every statistical category. It doesn't matter we were ranked behind 8 other SEC teams this year. You are a football savant who is able to see past all of this data and just know in your heart he was the best.

man that's a sad reply to my post. Can you let me know where I said he was the best?

Again you can throw all the numbers around you want this year but again you're ignoring everything but numbers. How many injuries/suspensions did we deal with on defense this year? Like I said there's much more than annual stats that go in to determining what makes a coach good>great>elite.

I asked you a legitimate question and you just get butthurt and write a childish response. Good talk.

I'm not butthurt lol. You obviously have strong feelings about Aranda. There is no amount of data that is going to change your mind. We have gotten worse in every defensive category since he got to LSU.

Did he have more injuries in 17 than 16? More in 18 than 17? More in 19 than 18? Because we got worse EVERY year. That would be the only way to prove your injury theory.

Did we have more injuries than 8 other SEC teams?

No we didn't. Every team has injuries and suspensions. We will just have to agree to disagree on this one.

Sorry this thread has gone down the tubes. I'm just going to trust our coaches to make the right hires.
