Same reaction here HomeSick. I had been pissed and in a very foul mood since the day Lloyd resigned. I could see LSU's season getting flushed down the drain. Funny how Herbie/ESPN trying their damnedest to undermine LSU really helped us out. I think Herbie gave LSU the fire they needed to win the SECCG.

The words "expose" and "Herbstreit" should never be used in the same sentence.
Could be worse--could have used "expose" and "Madden" instead.

After reading this thread, it seems that many of you don't realize how things work in the media. Herbstreit has to clear his stories through someone at ESPN, and if he has a scoop like that in today's world, it's very likely that his superiors TOLD him to run with it based on what sources he had at the time.
If it's wrong, you issue an apology and move on. That's how the media works these days, and it's been that way for quite some time now.
What you guys need to realize is that your martyr complex when it comes to ESPN is pretty silly, and your perception of the situation is extremely inaccurate. Plus, it makes you look really bad in the national picture.

I doubt seriously anyone in Washington gives a flip about what I think or say

Meh. You've obviously never been anyplace else. Try living in places other than Louisiana and listening to sports radio or reading the sports pages there or talk to people in sports bars and you'll have a different perspective.

All in know is what I hear. Last I heard , there was some guy name Keyshawn on ESPN saying "we want some of that LSU"
Any idea who that is, and. how much my words played into that ?

Then, clearly, you're not one of those who are whining about how much ESPN "hates" LSU, and thus my post wasn't directed at you.
Reading comprehension is your friend...

He did nothing wrong. He was told a story from a good source and he leaked it because ESPN told him to. He will not get fired and probably wont even be put on probation.
I don't think he should be fired over it...BUT...he DID do something wrong. He ran a story that he had not verified...Cardinal Sin of Journalism. Doubt he'll do it again!

Bottom line on this is that there is no way in hell that Herbie went on the air without permission from the higher ups in ESPN. It appears his reporting sux and may have been inaccurate but he had permission!
Permission? As I understand it, he was essentially ordered to run with it by a producer...even though it was not verified buy a separate source.

Herbstreit is NOT a fact checker, that is someone elses job. Herbie said he talked to Tenuta who admits to being "swept up" in all of it and he confirmed.
Wrong! It is Kirks butt on the line on National Television! It IS his job to check on something like this if HE is the one going on the air with the story!

The only problem I have with this whole Herbie thing was the timing. I think the timing of the leak was intended to F with Miles. I think the timing of the reporting was intended to F with LSU's game by ESPN. I don't think it was directed at LSU to specifically target LSU it was just a hot juicey story that would could F up the teams game. ESPN would do that to any team except maybe USC and/or ND. Herbie wouldn't do it to OSU but someone else would have. The fact is the Media has been trying to undermine LSU/Miles all season long with this UM Bull. Herbie thought he had the homerun at the end of the game and took his best swing. Only problem, he struck out!
This whole thing is an indictment to ESPN and sports reporting in general.
OH FOR HEAVEN'S SAKE!!!
Get over it already! Why in the WORLD would any Media outlet run a story to "F" with a specific team?!? Why would the media be trying to undermine LSU/Miles? This is just silly!
