Well, results on the field disagree with you. He has 2-3 straight stops with below par OL performance. In Saban's last year he didn't directly say names but he said due to his assistants being below what he's normally use to having, he had to do more than he normally did and it drained him. Sounded like a shot at guys like Wilford to me. Especially anyone who watched Bama knows those OLs weren't up to their standards under him. However, he did have a good OL in his first stint at Kentucky. Seems his best days in coaching are behind him. Lane OLs at Ole Miss have been so so outside this year. He's good at scheming around things. We shall see. This is one move I'm not crazy about.

This is a definite upgrade from Davis.

Hate this. Would’ve rather moved Atkins to full Oline.

Oh really, with Atkins on staff you would think with our o-line as bad as it was that he could of figured out what was our problem and helped Davis with our poor play. The issues continued throughout the season so apparently his isn’t that great either.

Maybe…and I’m just spitballing here, but maybe KY fans didn’t like him because their 60th rated recruiting classes didn’t have good players.

Pretty much much confirms Garrison and smith are not coming from ole miss.
Frank likely stays as RB coach

There's plenty of examples of mid tier and lower tier schools having good OLs. Kentucky plays in the SEC their pool of talent they have to choose from is better than most schools even being a low tier SEC school. Maybe just maybe the coaching wasn't good. Just like Davis where you had plenty of past performances showing he wasn't a good coach the same is obvious here with this guy. I like almost everything Lane has done so far but this is a dangerously lazy hire.

Getting fired from bama and doing awful at Kentucky doesn't exactly show me there will be an improvement.

Atkins atleast was a solid oline coach at FSU…

I've yet to see one constructive post explaining why it's bad. Someone posted that kentucky fans didn't like him and that grew legs and now continues to get regurgitated on TD. The rant isn't known for having the best opinions. It's just group think. So until someone gives me an actual reason to think this is a bad hire I'll just assume Lane knows better than the posters here

Bama fans hated him too. He prefers big slow OL and players regressed technically under his tutelage.

Was he fired from Bama or did he leave with Saban and his staff before DeBoer brought his guys in?

How can you judge how good any offensive coach was when they were under Mark Stoops?

The same way this board judges Hankton's coaching under BK & Sloan's offense

Bama fans can probably chime in on this but he left. I'm pretty sure he was going to get fired had Saban not retired. Anyone with eyes could see his Bama OLs were not good. They actually haven't recovered since he has touched that OL. While that's not directly his fault, it is kinda funny to see.

Saban said his assistants his last year are a big reason he retired because they forced him to do more than he traditionally did. At his age it was draining. He got tired of it. You see their OL was not great you put 2 and 2 together. IDK seems like he was taking shots at guys like this. I doubt he recommended him to Kiffin.

Probably a better example of a guy who falls upward in a coaching circle just because a bunch of coaches know you. Plenty of guys do this they're subpar and somehow keep getting big jobs in coaching circles.

Based on what? It's been pretty accepted that Lane wants and expects Kevin Smith to come to LSU after the season ends for OM.

Ill post some stats of the running game and passing game of each of his last 5 years soon. Its lots of downs with a couple ups. So like most things, its iffy and speculative. But i can say the sack percentage allowed over the last few years has been bad for all pf his olines. I say that acknowledging that sacks is as much a qb stat as an oline stat

Bama folks didn’t like him either, but it seems pretty obvious that Saban recommended him.

Funny you mention this because if you look at through his history this is a reoccurring theme.

quote:

Wolford joined the organization as an assistant offensive line coach currently serving under Pat Flaherty on a multi-year contract. The 49ers were fourth in yards per game rushing but 30th out of 32 teams in the NFL in sacks allowed.

maybe not his fault there who knows. in his first stint with SC they were among the worst in the SEC OL in rushing, sacks, etc.

He bounced and went to be Youngstown's HC. He seems to bounce around a lot when things don't look good. I'm really not crazy about this hire at all.

He took a job at Oklahoma State then bounced a week later.
