Not sure why everyone is worried about ND trying to keep their staff together. They could very well still be in this thing. Freeman is trying to keep the successful pieces together and all these guys just got pay raises.

It's part of grabbing a coach last minute before the season ends. BK has a helluva hill to climb but he's making the current LSU staff prove themselves with the recruiting class. I like the strategy.

You fricks are going to ruin this magnificent bastards first season with the bitchin

There would be absolutely no reason for Freeman and Rees to leave. If 2 teams in the CFP lose then ND is in. You can't expect coordinators to leave, especially when 1 is offered the HC job. The position and strength guys I could see them hanging around as well to support the team and players and to possible see if they have a chance at CFP.

So it may be an abrasive HC and that is why they didn't want to come, but I think it is for stability of the team, to support the players and the enticement of CFP.

These whole dynamics are so similar to when Saban fist came to LSU. MSU elevated its DC to HC and the staff stayed. People were a little worried about what that meant - if it was because Saban was abrasive, etc. Saban then went out and put together a killer staff - Jimbo, Smart, Muschamp, Tucker, etc. I don’t remember the guys he left behind except that the DC who was elevated to MSU’s HC eventually joined Saban’s staff a few years in. It will be interesting to see how much history repeats itself.

Smart and Muschamp were not on Saban's first staff. Boom was hired in 2001 as LB coach and Smart was hired in 2004.,

Bobby Williams who replaced Saban as HC at MSU was not the DC, he was the RB coach at MSU. Was hired by Saban as the LSU WR coach in 2004 after being fired by MSU, then followed to Miami Dolphins and then to Alabama.

I’d forgotten Williams was the RB coach. Who was MSU’s OC? Did MSU promote Williams over the OC as HC?

Again. Go back to the Nick Saban era when LSU hired him. How many of his coaches got on that plane in East Lansing that day?

Mich State’s OC when Saban left was actually our own Morris Watts. He actually stayed on as OC under Williams and was interim when Williams got fired.

Right, just because they aren't his guys don't mean there aren't better ones out there.

Looks like Elston will be the DC. There’s a reason Kelly never promoted him to DC despite their lengthy tenure together.
