I'm not advocating Mallory as the DC, but this is like your 5th post dogging him out. What do you have against Mallory? What has he ever done to show that he is anything but an excellent coach?
Miles has been exemplary on every hire he has made and I see nothing to make me believe that his next hire won't be just as good. If it's Mallory, then I'm on board with that. However, I don't think it will be.

You don't find it strange that a random Advocate writer is bowing down to a DB coach with zero coordinator experience over several very qualified candidates? Seriously, not being a DC is not a con?
"Expect" the new coordinator to be Mallory or Muschamp, or Dunbar.????
I'm just trying to figure out if this is propaganda coming straight from Miles to Rosetta or if Rosetta is best buds with Mallory.

So?
I just want to know what Mallory has done to invite the wrath of the original poster. I think Mallory is an excellent coach and has been with Miles longer than anyone on the staff. If Miles feels like he would make a good DC, then great. What is in Miles' history that suggest he makes poor hires? From what I have seen, he puts together as good a staff as any coach in the country.

Bad argument. He wasn't hired, and Miles has unquestionably hired good staff. The better argument is why risk the development of a position coach to a DC. Why not hire someone who's proven himself as a DC? We've got the money, and the prestige. If we get someone other than Tenuat and Mushchamp, I'd like to read that they were offered, but declined. There is not reason not to hire a proven DC.

Do I think the new DC will be Doug Mallory? No I don't. Would he be my first pick? No. Do I think it is far-fetched for Miles to include someone on staff as at least a candidate? No, I think it always good to at least consider someone from within, a la Monken for OC when Fisher left.
Pellini had only been a DC for one year stints at Nebraska and Oklahoma prior to coming to LSU.
Muschamp was promoted from a position coach to DC at LSU, although he had been a I-AA DC.
Dunbar has never been a DC.
Good coaches come from all situations. Miles puts in 100 hour weeks with these guys. You don't think he knows whether Mallory can coach a defense or not? Good grief.

NFL position coach > Maryland and Indiana position coach

and he had Saban to hold his hand on D, Mallory will not

Miles' loyalty certainly never blinds his judgement. cough Hester cough

I've seen some reaches to take a back-handed swipe at Jacob Hester, but that takes the cake. Whether Hester should have been our starter is another argument (he should have been), that has nothing to do with coaching changes.
Coaching experience can be garnered many places. There are as many duds that come to college from the NFL as there are at places like Indiana and Maryland. However, it is not my intent to defend Mallory, because there is no doubt in my mind that he will not be our next DC. I am defending Miles' track record in hiring coaches, which is almost flawless.

max I remember you fretting over Monken getting the job last year. Mallory has no chance at the DC job

I disagree with the opinion that Peveto is a bad coach. Great recruiter, excellent position coach, solid special teams coach. Sure, they have had problems in some areas, but have excelled in some areas. For all of the "punt-ugly" jokes, our punter is first-team All-SEC and I don't recall a punt being blocked. In fact, our punter may have been the MVP of the SEC championship game. He also converted an excellent fake punt pass.
I also disagree with the conventional wisdom that Pellini was a bad DC. I think he had to make a lot of changes in his strategy to cover up injuries on the line and slow safeties. That made him able to blitz less.
How are we able to win so much with Miles making all of these player and coaching mistakes? Luck I guess.

our punt COVERAGE still sucks dick, though. Why does it matter if the punt is great if our gunners all run 5 yards past the return man so he can run it back for a TD? Colt David and Fisher are the only ones saving Peveto from looking even more stupid than he already does.

talent certainly has nothing to do with it

We have so much talent that we are able to win by that alone? You must not watch a lot of football. I do. We are top 3 in the SEC and top 8 in the country. Of those teams, I believe the talent is close enough that it's a wash. After that, it's coaching, homefield advantage, scheduling, matchups, etc.
Top talent in no order:
Southern Cal
LSU
Florida
Ohio State
Georgia
Texas
Oklahoma
Virgina Tech
Auburn
Michigan
Honorable mention:
Tennessee
Miami
Florida State

So, how did we lose to Arkansas and Kentucky who aren't on your official talented teams lists? I'm sure the coaching was perfect but it was all because of injuries and the refs cheating against LSU right?
Why can't Miles coach his players (senior leaders at that) to line up properly by the last game of the season?
Why can't we correct any of the special teams problems?
