Does anyone REALLY believe Alleva's version of the Herman phone call?

It's too convenient--like a corny movie.

"All of sudden he (or his agent) said they wanted to listen to Texas ... I got pissed and stood up for dear ole LSU!"

"I told them I had a coach who WANTED the job!" (I bet Armstrong and Herman had a belly laugh over that.)

Now, it may have played out like that, but I do not believe at all it was spontaneous.

I think Alleva knew from sometime during LSU's first few wins over patsies during Orgeron's interim, that he was gong to go cheap and hire Orgeron.

I believe he "acted out" that phone call. That's why there was no further negotation with Herman, or at least waiting and assessing the situation after Herman talked to Texas.

The nightmare scenario some posted on this board has come true--I didn't want to believe it possibly could.

Jimbo stays at FSU.

Herman goes to Texas.

The bushel of other quality coaches not even considered.

And we get Orgeron and become a laughing stock.

It's a return to the days of good ole boy politics at LSU. The current administration is not willing to do what's necessary for LSU to be an elite program. It's very sad and it's going to set the program back big time. Nothing against Coach O, but this "coaching search" was a farce from the get go.

Joe was the only person on earth that would be surprised Herman would want to check out Texas

And he is our AD

In his own statement he reveals his ignorance, it prob didn't happen that way, but he tries to look tough and just looks incompetent

LSU is similar to Arsenal, huh?

Talk big and go cheap. (although Arsenal has done better lately)

Yes, count me as someone who does. It rings true to me. I'd been pretty pissed if it did in fact go down the way Alleva stated.

I believe that Herman and his agent was just using LSU as leverage for his "dream job" at UT.

Exactly.

Alleva's "the key is not winning championships but competing" sounds so much like Stan Kroenke's "we prioritize the bottom line over trophies."

Arsenal will always be good, but aim for top-four and CL berths rather than PL and CL trophies.

Kroenke needs to sell to an almost-trillionaire Arab oil sheik who will spend money like crazy on world-class players.

If it happened that way I have zero issue with Alleva walking on Herman and I wanted Herman.

Herman hasn't proven anything to deserve the kind of money he was after, and that's not even mentioning the buyout involved. Jimbo isn't worth what he wanted, either. Beyond Saban and Meyer, the bushel isn't worth a risk. I'd rather do exactly what LSU done. No financial risk at ALL if O fails. Plus we get to monitor the other potential elite coaches to see which ones continue their success in the process.. I love it.

That type of attitude is what brought us the dark ages of LSU football. I sincerely hope Joe Alleva has been fired before our next search has to be conducted and that your view represents an extreme minority of our fan base.

What good does it do to monitor the success of potential elite coaches when our AD stood in front of the world yesterday and proclaimed we no longer operate like an elite program and people like you are okay with it? Do you think there won't be competition for those coaches when the time comes, or that there won't be a bidding war for the top coaches on the market at that time?

Could say the same for Orgeron.

I honestly don't believe a word that POS Alleva says. Although he is 100% consistent with fricking things up.
