Just wanted to see if I could get a show of hands on this particular matter.
The other threads all end up with "I'm just loving all these mad bammers" and "I'm just rustling jimmies".
I am of the opinion that he stays at the University of Alabama. I am not basing that upon any inside knowledge, nor am I using flightaware or any other similar type of program to track any persons movement.
I also feel comfortable saying that I could be wrong. The rationale behind my comfort is that I, again, do not have access to any inside knowledge.
Please refrain from a simple usage of "He gone" and give me an idea for why you feel he will stay/he will go. Thanks, and have a great day.
I starting getting emails a month before any of this "Terri Saban is looking at houses in Austin Texas" story that hit a local Austin news paper.
It's been in the works for a good while...
My buddy is in coaching and knows a boat load of college coaches... the coaching Fraternity does talk a bit..and they know stuff from time to time
No one knows if it goes down or not but make no mistake, the talks (UT and Saban representatives) have been active for several weeks.
"It's fluid"... just like recruiting...no such thing as a lock...or a verbal commitment, until "signing day"...it isn't done

I don't think he leaves, but if he was to leave, this would be the year. He wouldn't have left before this because he had everything set up for an easy run at the NC (relatively speaking of course).
Next season, he will be breaking in a new QB, likely a new LT and several other key positions. Bama will still be a NC contender, but not near like the past 2-3 seasons.
I think Bama is due a down year in their terms (10-3 type season) next year given the reloading they'll have to do. Also, I think even if Saban isn't gone, Nussmeier is to take a HC job somewhere.
In the end, he'll be given a little less expectation year 1 at UT, whereas year 8 at Bama will be pretty unreasonable expectations.

Good stuff. Thanks for the insight.

While I agree with some of the 'he's staying' reasons (he's comfortable in Ttown, why take what might be seen as a lateral move, why 'start over' at 62), I don't think he will retire at Bama. I just don't think he'll move to UT.
If he leaves (and I think he'll eventually do so), it will either be to take another stab at the NFL...or he'll pull a CUM and 'retire' before realizing that he misses the game and goes for another college HC job.
I've been around a handful of really high-achieving people like Saban, and they are *always* looking to be challenged. And staying in the same job forever doesn't challenge them. Sometimes they 'retire' and try to have a life outside of their chosen field, but they almost always go back to what they love.
Still, despite what I think UT can offer (mainly, the chance to solidify himself as the greatest college coach ever by winning a NT at three different colleges), I don't think he goes. I really think his failure in the NFL is his greatest personal challenge, and eventually, he'll end up back there.
Personally, I don't think he's going to go to UT. My main reasoning? God loves me, but not that much.
There hasn't been a fanbase/coach meltdown that was really amazing since Kiffen to USC, and if Saban left, it would be epic.
But...as I said, love, but not that much.

half of the titles bama claim are complete bullshite
but that's a whole nother discussion
You go by the standard you have. Want to throw out everything before the poll era? Go ahead.
The "poll" era through today? 10 National titles, more than anyone else. Remember unlike the usual barner argument that one or the other doesn't count...pick one, be consistent as to whether it counts or not. If you just want to use just the AP...the total is 9...still more than anyone else.
Since the creation of the Bowl Championship format? 4 National titles, more than anyone else.
Since the creation of the current BCS format? 3 National titles...again more than anyone else.
So you see....it's not your opinion that matters...is it?

It's not about the poll era or not. It's the random and obscure NC's Bama claims years after the fact that are hilarious. 3-loss National champions one year I believe.

Alabama is the GOAT cfb program by any objective measure. Consider that Bama is number one all time in the country in all of these categories
:
AP National Titles
Coaches' Poll National Titles
BCS National Titles
SEC Championships
SEC West division titles
10-win seasons
12-win seasons
Undefeated seasons
Bowl appearances
Bowl victories
top 10 finishes
top 5 finishes
Bama's status as the GOAT program is not even debatable.

Still can't pay what Texas can.

I have UT buddies here who swear its a done deal. I have other UT buddies who say they don't think so. I expect Mack Brown is out. Winning only 2 conference titles in 16 years is just not good enough for Texas. As for Saban, the only fun in it is the razzing of the Bama fans.
I'm going with staying put, but using this to drive up his salary.
