Didn't Ensminger say he didn't want the OC job?

Of course he said that. He knew he wasn't getting the OC job and said he was content coaching TEs.

I don't know why, but I have been truly shocked at how many people actually think Ensminger would "turn down" the OC position. He gave a perfectly good "coach speak" answer when making that statement last year. Coach O needs to learn from Ensminger on how to give comments to the media about sensitive topics. Coach O threw gasoline onto a barely lit fire with his "I hope Canada finds a head coaching position" comment.

It was the only thing he COULD say that would allow for the possibility of being retained after his interim stint was up. If he doesn't very publicly say that last year then prospective OC's would see him as a threat or a possible malcontent. I believe he also said that while O was still very much an interim. It also left open the possibility that he'd be retained by the new HC if O was not going to be the guy. That statement paints him as an LSU guy that knows the state and the program and is just happy to be there in any capacity. It was a very wise self preservation statement that possibility wasn't entirely truthful.
Edit to say, I would much prefer an rpo heavy spread guy: yurcich, freeze, k briles.

Sees the writing on the wall that O isn't long for the HC job. May as well take the job and accompanying raise to strike while the iron is hot.
