Did the defensive performance of Houston make you second guess

Opinions on Herman vary but they are typically based upon what he brings to the offensive side. Last night, his undermanned defense basically shut down what was regarded as the top offense in college football. Does this make you consider him more strongly or do you consider it non consequential?

A little more but that does not tip the scale enough. Jimbo with Aranda >>>>>> other HC/DC combinations.

Houston all season has had one of the best defense in the G5.
His DC is also proven to be legit.

I think Herman is just a football genius. The offense Louisville runs is similar to what he runs at Houston. I think Herman walks in the coaching office and figures out ways to make his TEAM better. Not just one side of the ball or the other.
My God him and Aranda together would be insanity.

as Jackson goes Louisville goes. it appears that UH's defense is not as undermanned as you think.

It looked like Louisville wasn't prepared for a team to come after him like that, they probably assume most teams would try to sit back and contain him.

Herman has been the best candidate this search all along, and is once in a generational, to sleep this hire in going for TAF buddies old LSU OC or River Parish Recruiting Giant/DL Guru, would be a mistake of huge proportions..
And that's even with the recognition of Jimbo as a Natty Title HC and yearly 10 win guy, and O as an solid winner at USC/LSU with elite DL coaching, recruiting, and motivating...
Herman is just that bright a star!

So we have 1) proven DC, 2) not under maned, and 3) new approach to coaching against Louisville as reasons for their success last night. So does this mean he 1) recognizes and hires good coaches, 2) recruits above his head, and 3) is willing to play outside the box to achieve favorable results?
I am not investing my time to look it up but I think it is safe to say his coaching and recruiting budget is less than it would he with most P5 schools. He "out coached" Petrino when other prime time coaches didn't. He shut down a Michael Vick/Cam Newton type talent; we have precedent for one player in college football dominating entire seasons. Before this game, national pundits spoke of their desire to see if even Bama could slow Louisville...but Houston found a way to make it happen with much less time than a playoff matchup would have afforded.
I don't know that Herman is the best choice but if anyone pretends he shouldn't be in the same conversation as anyone else outside of Satan, Harbaugh, and Meyer, they are simply haters denying what results have si far proven.
ETA: auto correct changed Saban but I prefer their choice

No I starting second guessing him in a negative way after losing to SMU. The Navy loss didn't sway me much because Navy is a pretty good team. The win has swayed me back to being a Herman supporter.

Herman is an offensive coach for f*cks sake. He has very little to do with defense. I don't see why some of this is hard to comprehend with some of you. The games they lost they gave up 70 points in both games. Herman would be a great get as head coach.

Your point seems to lack an edge. Is a head coach exonerated from poor performance on the field if it is on a particular side of the ball? Is he not accountable for his coordinators? If he couldn't field a competitive defense, would you want him at LSU? Take a deep breath, collect yourself, and reconsider how you express yourself. And be happy.

It just goes to show even though he's an offensive HC he has his teams prepared in all phases to beat superior teams. We need that so much. They took it to OU's O too and FSU

If he is a coach with an offensive background he won't have much if any input on defensive plays, or at least he shouldn't.

Houston isn't a school that's willing to fork over huge amounts of cash to get a top notch D.C. Hell, Miles can thank the TAF for forking over enough money to keep elite D.C.'s here to carry the load for his crappy offenses and pad his winning %. Look at 2008 for example.

We already have a competitive defensive staff to go along with the talent. And as long as LSU is willing to pay for top notch coaches they will always get top notch coaches. He just merely has to get the offense going where we can get the most out of our talent, something Miles couldn't do.
And it is time for a screen name change. Just throwing that out there champ.
