According to Moscona (I know) Tate wanted to fire O for cause while Woodward persuaded him to pay in order to avoid Chernobyl South.

But has anyone heard anything reputable as to whether W would have made the move at all with a hands-off President?

I saw someone post that they got whacked for asking a similar question and I don’t really see why; as an alumnus I think it’s reasonable to inquire as to whether our AD actually wanted to make the move now.

I think it's actually the complete opposite of what you're saying happened, Woodward basically had to twist Tate's arm to get him to sign the buyout

Edit: misread post, my fault

Tate definitely wanted Orgeron gone, regardless of the buyout.

No that is what I said.

I just have a suspicion that Woodward would have preferred to let the season play out, which would probably end 7-5 optimistically and then evaluate/act from there. Maybe I’m just projecting based on what I would have done.

Just wanted to know if anyone had any sauces on this, but I know W keeps things very airtight.

If taf is paying the buyout what does he have to do with it?

Isn’t this kind of what post said. Tate wanted him fired for cause (no buyout), but Woodward twisted his arm to get to agree to buyout to avoid Ed burning down the place.

Woodward fired Tyrone Willingham 7 games into the season. He let him finish the rest of the season out. season

Woodward fired O so he could work on his replacement. Plenty of coaches want the job, so think of the rest of the season as an extended coach’s combine.

I just wish they had waited… evaluate the first normal season since the ship as a whole. I think 15-0 should earn a coach that.

I understand that in all likelihood we lose at least 2 more games, but I don’t like the move until it actually happens.

LOL this got anchored and not an actual Saban thread. Just makes the original question seem more pertinent.
