How do you know he was at fault for that? I know people in the student managers organization, they have separate people who are ultimately in charge of them. Of course, they interact with BK, naturally, but he is not the one in charge of them. Is BK supposed to be in charge of everything? Should he worry about the water boys and the guy who cuts the grass? Unless, BK forced him to go/stay up there (all indications are that nothing of the sort happened), he is not at fault.

Well we will not agree.

So the head coach isn't ultimately responsible for holding practice requiring this kid to go up there?

In the same sense that President is ultimately responsible for every military action in the world.

Do you think Bush should have been forced to resign due to friendly-fire?

Impeached and locked up for war crimes.

I mean, I agree someone is at fault (and if the investigation, which is ongoing, determines it's BK's, he will be), but all indications are that it wasn't his fault. It was his decision to practice outside, but it was actually a beautiful day, sunny, temperature was OK, just really windy. You can't blame him for that choice. The person that is in charge of the video guys and knows the limits the lift could take should have brought him down. Now, like I said, if the guy in charge of that wanted to/Declan wanted to, and BK said no, you can't, then of course, things are different.

I'm not on the poli board and I'm not sure how that is a pertinent analogy in this case.

Ultimately we're not dealing with one man, wars, and hundreds of millions of people. We're dealing with a football coach on a day they had no business being out there controlling the practices of 100 people.

Yeah I really think that type of mistake may warrant him stepping down.

It doesn't matter that its political, it was just a relevant analogy.

Kelly is ultimately responsible for football. That doesn't mean he made the direct decision that led to the kid's death. In fact, I can almost guarantee that he didn't given the list of priorities of a football coach.

If a worker dies at plant that makes Ipods, should Steve Jobs be forced to resign?

It's an ignorant position.

I was on ND's campus that day. The weather was perfectly fine to practice, as I said. It was sunny (no threat of heavy rain, lightning, etc), not very cold, and all that. It was fine. It was just windy. It's football. There just shouldn't have been anyone up on the lift.

Imagine Steve Jobs isn't in a corporate office but on the floor of the production facility at the IPOD plant and knows that the conditions of that plant are substandard and could result in serious problems/injuries if he allows them to work. That analogy makes more sense to me.

Ultimately I don't know whether he has control over the guy being in the tower. But I'm assuming that when they have practice, his job is to be up there. They had practice. Certainly this isn't a criminal situation, but as a football coach, I would think he has some responsibility.

Reading those tweets seemed like it was a bit more than windy.

if he gave an order to continue with production, even though a maintenance project wasn't complete and high voltage wires were exposed, then yes.

Do people really believe that college football coaches micromanage the media/filming department?

I can say from first hand experience...yes they do.

If they have a duty to be up there because the coach requires it, which they do, the coach may have the same duty to monitor whether the conditions on the field are such that filming is a bad idea. These things are located directly next to the sidelines between practice fields, it's not as if this guy is so far removed that the coach can't take the time to reevaluate the conditions and tell him not to bother filming.
