Derek Mason had bad defenses at Vanderbilt and a lot of Vandy fans think he wasn’t the true architect of the Stanford defense he was touted to have designed and coached.
When people don't want you around this will always happen.
When BAMA D is good Saban gets the credit, when it's bad it's all on the DC.
Vandy's total D rankings under Mason...
68th
28th(the only year that he called plays for the D)
64th
65th
99th
101th
122th
Where would you rank their defensive talent?

Name a single thing Mason’s Vandy defenses have done during his tenure to warrant any consideration for the LSU DC position.
The one year he took control of their D as head coach, they were top 25 (ETA: 28th. I was a little off) as a 4 win team with Vandy talent. He was the reason Stanford was good before he left there. He’s a damn good DC.
By your logic, no one would have hired Barry Odom last year. Look at the one-year improvement at Arkansas without a ton of talent.

Would be a good hire if Orgeron wanted a 3 man 2 gap defense.... but he doesn't so very unlikely.
Mason plays multiple looks and uses 3 and 4-man fronts, but your are right. He is on record saying that he prefers a 2-gap style for college football.
He’s qualified, but this is probably the reason if O doesn’t look at him.

I agree!
He would be in my top 5 realistic candidates, Marcus Freeman is #1

The bigger question is who do you expect to get to replace Pelini when you fire him after 1 season?
A coach with enough self confidence to think he can do better than 97th in scoring defense.
97th!

He’s a terrible coach.

If Pelini has to go which I hope he doesn’t.. I say bring in David Reeves.

Get the frick out of he here. You’ve already exposed yourself as an intellectually dishonest (at best) race baiter (also at best) on the 1st page, now we know you’re fricking retarded as well. I’d log off and call it a day, but you do you.
