Are we having the same conversation? JDR's success only enhances his chances at LSU, it doesn't diminish them. Regardless, JDR only gets the shot if SS turns it down. But he is definitely a candidate just like SS and RR. I think we have the slimmest chance of getting RR out of all of them.

I must be out of the loop. You caught me. I didnt know that winning in the NFL results in a lower paying, lower level job.

Obviously. You also didn't know that JDR has a house in LA and that his wife is from here. If he wanted the job while his NFL team was IN THE PLAYOFFS, then why is it so hard to believe he would take the job with his team being in 2nd place in it's conference.

And if you think LSU is a lower level job then coaching an expansion NFL team, then you sir are NO LSU fan.

I still don't understand why Del Rio's name comes up every time LSU might need a new head coach. IMO, the last few years have shown that successful NFL coaches and successful college coaches are too entirely different animals.

Does Del Rio have any college experience?

Someone please explain to me what is so appealing about Del Rio, other then people think he would be here for the long haul? I'm not trying to be a smart arse, I really don't know.

JDR is very much in the mold of Pete Carroll. He has the same sort of intense style that seems to appeal to young players. He's proven himself to be a good gameday coach(better than Petey). Finally recruiting wouldn't be a big issue since he has the name recognition, and LSU is gaining a reputation for putting players in the pros.

They still have to block off parts of the stadium because no one comes to their games. I don't think JDR is the leading candidate, I've come to terms the Spurrier will in all likelihood be the next head coach at LSU, but if he can't do it then JDR should be the second option.

JDR is still young

if we get spurrier, JDR could very well be the HC when spurrier leaves in 3-5 years

Nope. She lives in an apartment near campus. Keep trying though, practice makes perfect.

I don't even know why you keep pissing in the wind. I don't even think JDR will be the next coach, but he is without question a candidate. You're the asshat that claims to be in the know and then gets embarassed when you don't know simple bcakground $hit about JDR and his past dealings w/ LSU.

Follow the money. Del Rio is more than a long shot. He is getting paid too much, and has the opportunity to cash in even further if his success continues. Whether he loves LSU or NOT (he is a USC Grad), he is clearly no financial fool.

I haven't seen any comments or other indications from Del Rio's mouth suggested that he may wish to give up his pro career for a college gig since he considered the LSU job in 2004. Since then, he has gone 12-4 and is now on pace for a similar record with the Jaguars. Del Rio is currently making $3.3 mill per year through 2008, and the current record suggests his job is now stable and that he is in line for a sizeable raise past $3.3 mill. My guess is that Wayne Weaver, the owner of the Jaguars, will pony up more money and offer an lucrative extension if Del Rio returns to the playoffs this year, which almost appears to be a lock.

Del Rio Article - Raise

Plus, this is not a Jimmy Sexton client. Del Rio is represented by Gary O'Hagan. There is an interesting article on O'Hagan here suggesting that he expects NFL head coaches to start making $10Mil+ per year in the near future. With an agent who believes that $10mil is a realistic option, it is doubtful that he would ever recommend that Del Rio leave the pros when his team is winning. If his name keeps getting mentioned and the Jags keep winning, it would be pure posturing.

What are you talking about? Del Rio makes more money now than he ever will as a college coach. He is winning in the NFL and has a shot at being a Championship contender. What dont you get? You think because I dont that his daughter is livi8ng in an apartment, I dont hear stuff... lol

Three years ago he was making 1.3 million when he entertained the thought of LSU. It would have been a raise.

Presently, if he gets no raise from Jacksonville, it would be a lateral move money wise. But I'm sure they'll up the ante there.

Stopped reading there. Anyone who thinks that money will always keep an NFL coach from moving to CF is a tard. So far, money is the only reason I have heard anyone try to use to suggest that JDR is not a candidate.

Having said that, I will ONCE AGAIN reiterate that I think JDR only gets offered if SS turns it down. If JDR is offered though he definitely takes it. LSU can afford to pat more than $3.3M per year if they wanted to. Even if they don't it doesn't matter. JDR already proved this by expressing interest in the job 3 yrs ago while his team was in the playoffs.

You guys should really do a little research before you opine. Either that or avail yoursleves of some info sources instead of just talking out of your asses!

Del Rio is now under contract through the 2008 season at an average of $3.3 million per year. Yep, lateral.

There are College coaches making that much money and LSU can afford it if they think they think he is right for the program.

Del Rio to LSU = crazy talk. The more you say it, the crazier you get.

And, just suppose that Del Rio did lose the rest of his games and took the LSU job. Immediately, there would be rumors that Del Rio is going to USC (JDR played for USC)when PC is gone.

PLEASE STOP.
