Pete Carroll had no experience before getting hired as USC and he's done a fair job

Look, JDR may come here and be the best coach of the last 25 years, I like the guy. Just do not understand why we are SO sold on him being the best available coach without even opening up the search.
In the same sense that alot of great college coaches have jumped to the pros and not had much if any real success, I feel that each level requires a certain skill set, that may very well be exclusive of the skill required in other leagues.
Bill Walsh for example had a brief run at Stanford with like a top 10 or 15 finish, then finished with losing seasons. Arguably the best coach in NFL history could not sustain success in a historically weak conference.

"without opening up the search"...are you kidding me, I think anyone who's ever coached a Pop Warner team has had there name thrown in the hat and been speculated about on this board.
Three names seem to keep floating to the top in my opinion:
Saban- Been there, done that, too much baggage, no thanks!
Spurrier - I would have loved the idea 10 years ago, he's 62 and I think the game has caught up to him...if not passed him by, no thanks!
JDR - My vote! For all the positive reasons mentioned in this thread....
