There are 4 NFL teams still playing ball. It may be that our guy is still playing for a Super Bowl. I wonder if Eric Washington would be interested? Scott Long mentioned him this morning. He has a good resume and is from Shreveport. Eric Washington DL Coach Buffalo Bills

From Dandy Don (Scott)this AM:
quote:

Without knowing who head coach Ed Orgeron is currently targeting for the position — that’s something he will likely keep quiet — I will tell you one name I began hearing yesterday as a potential candidate: Eric Washington. He’s currently serving as the Buffalo Bills’ defensive line coach but was defensive coordinator for the Carolina Panthers in 2018 and 2019. Before that, he coached defensive linemen for the Panthers from 2011-2017. Though he has no history with Orgeron that I know of, Washington does have a tie to Louisiana. He played linebacker at Grambling State University in the late 80s.

Scott may have read his name on here though.

As much of a cluster up as the Les replacement debacle that went on for almost a year. LSU knew Pelini was gone MONTHS AGO.

In today's football landscape, once a coach attains a fulltime position on an NFL staff, he tends to desperately want to stay in the NFL. As some coaches have said, there are only 32 jobs like theirs in the world -- 32 NFL head coaches, 32 NFL defensive line coaches, etc.
They are reluctant to step down/back into college football for fear of never getting a pro job again.

Joe Brady was listed as an "offensive assistant" with the Saints in 2018. The LSU job was a promotion.
Ryan Nielsen is the Saints' defensive line coach and Payton gave him a contract extension and a promotion, so Nielsen stayed in the NFL.

I don't see either the Freeman or Nielsen cases as being failures on Orgeron's part. LSU simply finished second both times. It happens, maybe even to Alabama. (You don't think a coach would be reluctant to work for Saban, after seeing and hearing the way he treats some of his assistants? #Kiffin )

I agree with the title of this thread. No news is good news. But there are bound to be names leaked, actual and merely rumored.
