Dave Aranda is an impressive human

I get the feeling Aranda is one of those guys you consider hiring after the interview regardless of industry or experience.
Everything about him screams “really got my sh*t together”.
No sources, but it’s hard to imagine Woodward has no prior familiarity — or contact with the guy’s camp regarding this search. If true that Scott’s process involves due diligence to every corner, you have to think Aranda was always a top 3 candidate & that the only way he doesn’t wind up at LSU is if Riley takes the job or Aranda simply doesn’t want to come to LSU.
What’s interesting is, clear as it is that admin is committed to making Riley say no... does being a fallback affect Aranda’s thoughts on the LSU job? Unfortunately, I’d assume the answer to that question is “yes” for any sitting P5 HC.
The other consideration is that fact that Baylor is not locked out of the CFP picture. Guess we’ll see. SIAP but if we miss on Aranda chasing long-shots, it would be hard not to view that as a blunder.

This is my concern with Woodward. After pulling whoever he wants, does he have hubris. Pride goeth before a fall. He may be so locked in on a White Whale that he's overlooking the best guy for the job. The only knock on Aranda is a thin body of work as HC but he has everything else in spades. IYAM we should forget Riley and be making a full court press for him.

Do I think there’s a chance we get Riley? Yes. Do I think there’s a much better chance he declines at the final hour? Also yes.

I want Aranda but I can also tell you that Matt Campbell is the same type of guy. Whenever I have heard him give an interview or press appearance I think the same thing. If Aranda, Campbell and even Napier are coaches we can get than I feel pretty damn good about the direction the program will be heading with a coach like this.

You can’t find anyone to say an ill word about him. On the record and off, seems like a highly cerebral, well grounded, exemplary human being.

He's like the anti-Eaux.
I wished he hadn't gotten the Baylor gig before we canned Gustav. He was at the top of my list of HC prospects for AU.
I think Napier will do a great job for y'all, but I think Aranda is the guy with the highest upside. Either way, you will be a force with one of those as HC.
I also think pursuing Riley or Jimbo or any of the other 'white whales' is a waste of time. You've got two really solid candidates who would probably take the job, if Woodward is as smart as y'all seem to think he is he should be finalizing a deal right now, even if he won't be able to announce it until after the Big12 CG.
