Who the already toxic players can turn to stage a revolt when they don't like the new DC yelling at them. Imagine you demote him and the DC is not a minority hire on top of that.

Maybe you’re right, I just don’t see somebody giving him another DC opportunity yet.

I didn’t mean as a DC. He was a position coach in the NFL when we hired him.

My point was this- Jones is likely taking a demotion unless he finds a G5 school looking for a young DC with potential. If he wants to stay in the P5 or go back to the NFL, he will be working with a secondary.

Maybe he will be offered the chance to take a demotion here, but that’s a strange dynamic going from the leader of the defense to a position coach, both for the players and the staff. That’s one reason why we don’t really see things like that often. In the case of Ensminger, he’s a lifelong Tiger and we saw how he handled his ego letting Brady have the role he did and most of the credit for 2019. Guys like him are extremely rare.

Jones has no ties here and has only been here for a season. If he isn’t retained as DC, then I think he’s definitely gone.

Not sure if it will come into play but Ed was dirty handing Jones through the first half of the season. After the buyout occurred he gave Jones carte Blanche. The defense only brought pressure on 9% of snaps pre buyout. That’s not coincidental.

Also been told that the compliance department testing polices have been changed. Weed smokers unite.

Perhaps a big part of the improvement down the stretch was not just the scheme change, but a cultural change. With all of the prima donnas out nursing boo boos the players that were hungrier stepped up. The kids that were more motivated by trying to earn playing time and being a part of the team took over for the ones more interested in making a "business decision".

If that's the case and if that's the culture Daronte is trying to instill then maybe he should stay.

Really want him to stay on staff

Is he going to bring Lane Kiffin to help with schemes?

After this season, I would say that Daronte is a proven DC who is already under contract, won't require a buyout and is already on the recruiting trail for us when we need to maintain some continuity in the middle of all of this change. Again, all of this talk about the DC, but I am most interested in Kelly getting a solid OC because the Peetz experiment wasn't that great.

Short side option.

I don't think people mind options to the weak side of the defense.
