Could Matt Rhule dominos send Gus sneaking to Baylor? If so, who does Auburn go after?

I can't stand the self-promoter Gus, but I admit one thing; he's always had great ability to find the right job at the right time.

Seven years at Auburn is the longest he's ever been at any job, and he is always well aware of his surroundings. Gus always knows who’s in the room. He also knows many Auburn fans would secretly like to punch him in the nads. So he would love to leave now and lock in his tenure at Auburn, where he could come back and visit and be treated like royalty whenever he needed an ego stroke in the off season.

Sure, he could torture Auburn fans for another year, and he has North Carolina as his markee non conference game next year, so the schedule looks pretty favorable on the surface. However, your offensive line is in shambles. They sucked in the past week, and those were your best guys, and now they all graduate? And UNC is no slouch on defense if I remember correctly. So in reality, you’re ripe to be upset by UNC, and/or Ole Miss or Kentucky or even Southern Miss, early next year. Could easily be 3-2 going into the Georgia game and then Jimbo the next week.

Yes. Gus is having phone sex with Jimmy Sexton as we speak.

Buyout negotiation < Gus’s ego. Money good. Ego recharge great.

Leave Auburn now while you know you’re hated, but while you can yet also pretend you’re not hated.

Auburn would be like, “aww, give me a hug, we hate to see you go” while simultaneously thinking “GTFO already, keep the house in town for nostalgic purposes, fine, for when you visit, fine, just G.T.F.O…”

Lock in his tenure at Auburn, lock in “no losing seasons” and secure his “legacy” since his ego is so much more in play with any decision he makes than most people realize. He could come back and visit and be treated like royalty, dinner with Pat Dye, etc. His daughters would have keys to the house for whenever they visit. Great setup.

Baylor. The Baylor Bears. Moved away from the Southern Baptist Convention, but still Baptist enough for Gus to hang in there for two or three years and leave skidmarks trying to convince himself he’s somehow earned the Texas job. Or at worst, do a few years in Waco and then find a landing spot for retirement at Okie State or TCU. And still watch from afar and giggle like a little girl as his cult members in Northwest Arkansas try to continue screwing up the Razorback program.

Kristi gets a guest appearance with Chip and Joanna on “Fixer Upper.” Stay-cations and shopping with the girls in Austin and DFW and Houston. A hundred-acre ranch with ponds and horses. All the full seasons of “Dallas” on DVD, rediscover the daily exploits of Sue Ellen and Pamela. Hell, trip to Paris like Carmella Soprano.

Why would Baylor go after Gus? They could do better and they showed a willingness to pay for a top coach with Rhule.

You've steadily become my favorite poster on tRant. This post confirms it.

Sadly, probably not a word of it will come to pass, but you've given me a beautiful vision of happiness, which in these dark times is truly a gift. Thank you.

Freep, this is the premium content that the Auburn board is missing by not approving me to post there

If the Auburn board wants me now, each poster must pay me $5.99 per month

Matt Rhule is not turning down the NY Giants

I mean, come on. He was born in NYC and he played at Penn State down the highway.

I'd guarantee you former SBC president Ronnie Floyd has already put in a call to Baylor on behalf of his boy.

Rhule is going to NFL and Napier is going to Baylor. He wants Baylor not State.

like it or not Jim, this Pelican Brief on Gus to Baylor is the best thing available in Auburn sports info on this day January 2 2020. You've got an attitude problem, and if you want at least a trickle of premium content to continue, you'd best dial it back a notch.

Well, technically it's January 3, but I won't quibble.

Cut him some slack, he abridged his comments.

I bet you could easily get $5.99 per AU poster if your Pelican Brief takes flight

Freep, your kind words are duly noted.

I'm going to give a makeshift Auburn poster power ratings right now:

1. AU86
2. NYC Aub
3. Duncan Idaho
4. Pav
5. Fearless Freep
6. AU Catfish
7. dragon

I ranked you ahead of Catfish since he's a Democrat

pettifoger is way down on the list

Auburn Premium Content Update:

Per the speculation of Billy Napier to Baylor, the timing will not allow this to be a consideration. Napier coaches his ULL bowl this Monday and Miss State will demand an answer by Napier by Monday. Or they will move on.

Napier cannot wait for Baylor to open.

Then Napier will be inclined to wait it out another year if State gives him a deadline and Baylor does not open up. There is a good chance USCe opens up next year and Napier would rather come to the SEC and be in the East than to compete in the West at State.

Miss State could pull it off but Napier wants Baylor more than State at present moment. I would keep an eye on Grantham as someone who is not being talked about as much as other candidates.
