When are schools going to wake up and stop doing such large buyouts? Isn't it ridiculous enough that the next big contract will be 7 mil?

Could schools start puting in stipulations with mandatory win percentages or milestones a coach has to hit?

When and why did coaches get the upper hand in these deals? Schools will make money regardless of wins and who the coach is.

If schools keep paying these prices will this put more pressure on student athletes to get paid?

Just a discussion thread to see your opinions and break up the drama on this board.

Coaches have the leverage. They aren't going to sign some massive buyout without a massive price tag to go along with it. The open season on coaches just drives the salaries up and up.

I don't understand the leverage. Why does Herman (ex) have a potential 7 million dollar leverage on LSU? Is it because Texas is nuts? The dude is a good young coach with a great background but he himself isn't a GREAT Coach yet IMO

Literally, it isn't. Realistically, it is.

The value of any product is what someone is willing to pay, that includes coaches! Now is something over-valued? Well that is the big question but if you look at a successful NCAA football program, LSU is one of those, and see the revenues generated by those programs. Then you will tend to overpay to make sure the program stays successful because of the revenues lost if the program isn't successful. Simple business 101!

Did they not teach you that at Arky -

I kid, but come on please tell me you are smart enough to understand that!

I see what you're getting at, and I agree that coaches salaries are out of hand.

Unfortunately, it is what it is. The TV $$$ has played a big part in the increased revenues and coaches salaries.

I do understand that just think even if you got Saban to come to LSU it's not 100% that he would win all the games next season. I just see this extreme pressure to win right now but why does that come at that cost for someone who isn't even in the same universe as Saban? What does 7 million do when it comes to assistant coaches? A great head coach is awesome but let's not forget that doesn't come as a package for top coordinators

The coaches are and always will be in control because they are the commodity. All of the schools could band together(NCAA) and put limits on these buyouts and salaries but I'm pretty sure your government will shut them down shortly thereafter.

You're welcome here, but this is not the SEC rant. This is an LSU board, period.

I'm also not trolling and treating this as the rant. It's a serious discussion and something I think all fans should think about versus throwing the bank at a hot name.

Coaches have a bigger impact in college football than they do in pretty much every other league or sport. Naturally schools will compete to get the best talent. That means higher salaries and more favorable terms for coaches. It's really just that simple.

None of this will happen because coaches have big time agents now. It'd take mutiny against the system. The first school to try this will get left in the dust.

Ok now we get to have some fun. Yes you are correct when it comes to the literally meaning of this coaching board it is not for just LSU searches. But apparently, you can't get a hint. Look at the threads on this board and then look at what fanbase started this thread and hopefully that helps your dumb pig-sooie arse figure out who this coaching search board is really set up for!!!!

I'm talking about established coaches at P5 schools having leverage. Miles had a shitty season in 2012 but all he had to do was flirt with Arkansas to get a raise. That raises the salaries of everyone and so they don't have to sign anything with big buyouts because the teams they are flirting with don't give a shite about a buy out

It would take an NCAA rule change or overwhelming collusion between schools to lower the salaries and raise the buyouts

Do you think college football coach salaries will pass NFL coach salaries? Also what is a typical NFL coach buyout?

As if you really look at the numbers the top coaches are still bringing in more revenue for the athletic department than they are being paid.

Harbaugh makes 9M, so it's already surpassed most NFL coaches.

Idk buyouts for NFL coaches TBH

It's different in college, though. Buyouts matter because you develop relationships with HS in the area, so if you're going to jump ship and still try to take kids from your old territory, it's going to cost you.
