Rodriguez
Malzahn
I'd go with:
Pelini
Tuberville

Sorry, but I cant ever see Saban back here. It cracks me up with the number of people who can.
My bad.
I totally misread the question.
No, Saban wouldn't want to come here again, but when he was at MSU, it was a dream job for him,. It was the job that made him.

these coaches and their assistants have families and may not want to uproot families and cause a bunch of upheaval

Not a coach, but I once heard Terry Bradshaw say that he always dreamed of coaching at LSU.
Why did he go to Tech again?

Why did he go to Tech again?

Sean Payton
Nick Saban
Sorry, had to do it.
I really don't think there are many.

It's not total b.s. I'm not saying it's the case with all of them, but it certainly could be the case with some. I also said something about coaches being happy where they are at. That could be the case that some are just happy where they are at. It's completely conceivable to me that folk like Petersen, Pelini, Patterson, and few others that are mentioned are happy with the jobs they have.

He has said publicly several times that he couldn't get into LSU

The only reason Patterson would leave TCU for LSU is a much better chance of winning a national championship.
LSU is in the toughest division in the toughest conference in college football. TCU is moving to the easiest BCS conference out there.
Am I missing something?

It takes remarkable circumstances for a coach and school to be the perfect long-term match. They are the lucky ones. And rarely do assistant coaches stay put. All of the guys you mentioned coached at different schools across the country along the way.

In not 100% sure that Patterson would come to lsu, but to say that tcu is just as good of a job is asinine. If les left this is a top 10 team next year, not a rebuilding project with an automatic talented recruiting base. Just because he won the rose bowl this year doesn't mean he will ever make it to a national championship. Even an undefeated team in the big east doesn't go ahead of an undefeated from any other conference. So, I'm not sure of the personal reasons Patterson may not come to lsu, but I gauruntee he views it as a better job and we can pay more money. So take it for what it's worth

Why does no one think that Pelini would want to come back?
