re: Coach O salary

We have got to keep the salary structure of the staff within limits. Crowton and Chavis need to be the highest paid and O's salary in line with other coaches -- I read where Moffit make about $190k a year. If you overpay for one guy then the rest of the staff gets pissed.

don't forget we were undefeated in regulation last year

all it took was for the stars to align for the first ever two loss team to win the BCS
And all it took was for UCLA to beat a 30 point favored USC for Florida to get a chance to play tOSU, and a tremendous lucky run of upsets and BCS computers for us to get into the 2003 game, not to mention the luck of Auburn to go undefeated and never get a chance to play. Give Miles a break, you don't draw plays in the dirt on the sideline and win as much as Miles has. Chavis was the key hire -- there are several DL coaches on the board who would be a giant upgrade from Lane.

He won a National Championship. You can try to spin it if you want.

Well if we werent in that game there was a good chance that was gonna happen anyway, oklahoma, usc, georgia all had 2 losses so your point is moot, those teams wouldnt of lost to Ohio State either.

some people just don't like Miles, and there's nothing you can do or write that will change that. The sooner you can deal with this, the more you'll enjoy the Rant.

Stevo, good advice and appreciated. I just remember 40 years of mediocrity and find it amazing that many rantards don't realize how good we have had it for 8 years - and a chance to continue to be good.

Or we remember it and we don't want to go back.

Exactly, we were the beneficiary of a fluke year. Miles' on the field results were basically no better or worse than in his first two years.

needed some help to get into the BCSNCG saban's year too
the system is what it is you can't discount a championship because flukey things happened

I'm not discounting the championship. I'm discounting the notion that it was a brilliant coaching performance that got us there.

I'd at least credit him for getting the team refocused to beat UT coming off a devastating loss, minus your starting qb, and all the coaching distractions then blowing out your opponent in the NC.

No, you're making a much larger point than that.
You are saying that Miles isn't worth his salary...and based on how much you think he's worth, isn't worthy of this job.

I'll give him that.
UT was the third best team in the east though last year.

Could we do better? Maybe so
But you're talking about tossing out a proven winner....ask AU how that worked out.
You'd be banking on the right guy to be available, has the desire to come here, and trust our powers that be to not frick it up.

It's pretty clear how you feel about Miles. I don't know why you are being vague about it.

That's the great thing about LSU. We can win based on what LSU brings to the table without having to have the single best coach out there.
Miles is a very good coach. He's not perfect.
What Miles is doing with the program as a whole however could very well be the best job anyone is doing in the nation...it's certainly near the top.

I'm not being vague. I have never been a big fan of Miles. I feel he is an average coach. I just don't want you to put words in my mouth.

So you agree with me.

I agree, we can win. But to compete with Meyer at Florida and Saban at Alabama we need and deserve a top ten coach.

agree to disagree

If he fills out the staff properly and wins the West next year, I can be swayed.

I agree with your meaningless statement. As soon as you try to make any point with that statement, I'll likely disagree.

LSU won a NC last year...and beat Meyer and Florida. And, all things considered Miles is definitely a top 10 coach.

I'm not going to go over the fluke year argument again. As for Florida this has been gone over and over many times. We all know they were down big time last year.

Not that rivals is the end all of rankings, but how many of the teams of the top 10-15 guys listed here would trade for Miles?

Let's not start questioning each others fandom. I am not so close minded as to not admit if I am wrong, and believe me I hope I am.
