Getting fired on a Tuesday a week before the season ends? Something is fishy and it ain't my dinner.
What's your best guess? Player mutany? Donald sterling esque voice recordings that haven't been leaked yet? So many possibilities

Like eliminated from the playoffs after completely dismantling the team and tanking with "his guys"
He will be front and center available for open NFL jobs and if he wants to go back to NCAA he can sit a year and cherrypick the job he wants next season. Both USC and UT wanted him but did not want to wait for end of NFL season.

He had a routine meeting with the owner on Tuesday and it got personal and waaaaaayyyyyyyyy out of hand.

I think Kelly wanted out. his refusal to agree to losing player selection control was a measured response. he will make more money by getting canned and can pursue other opportunities with the luxury of being picky.

It's not that deep. They wanted him to give up player personnel control and he didn't want to. The star RB on the team also went straight to ownership and told them they don't believe in chip (or like him that much).
