Can Mack Brown sue for defamation of character?

It seems like only a matter of time before ESPN downs a coach so much before they even get fired that they will get sued. I feel like they are pushing for Texas to fire Mack just so they have something to talk about. One day, will this bite them in the arse?

He wasn't defamed, libeled, nor anything else. Nothing to sue for.

Ok so maybe not defamed, but you cant lie what ESPN does to coaches is wrong. After they are fired, say what you want. But creating 10,000 rumors a day is not right

Coaches are in the public eye. Media saying things about them, whether false or inaccurate, just goes with the territory of being famous.
Now if they said Mack was backdooring Bevo at halftime, then he might have something.

Nope, he's a public figure.

Yeah, saying someone might be fired or resigning is totally defaming his character.

Sure he can sue- but he will not prevail.

Austerisk is indeed correct. And you can file suit for anything, but this would get drummed out of court in a hurry.

Even if he was defamed or libeled, Brown hasn't suffered any damages.

ESPN didn't create any of the rumors. Spread them...yeah. But they didn't start them.

He is a public figure and last time I checked you can not sue for speculation about his job. Now if they were to run a story like the Winston story and relate it to a coach who was completely innocent and they were proved to have made it up from a lousy "source" then you might have a law suit
