CBS Sports' Jason La Canfora reports the Browns are expected to hire Jim Schwartz as their defensive coordinator.

What the Browns are doing, we have no clue. Rob Chudzinski assembled a star-studded coordinator pairing in OC Norv Turner and DC Ray Horton last offseason. Horton is one of the brighter defensive minds in the game. The Browns have told him he can seek employment elsewhere, and he'll have zero trouble landing on his feet. Schwartz worked with the Browns as a scout from 1993-1995 when Bill Belichick was the coach. Current Browns GM Mike Lombardi was also on that staff. Schwartz coordinated the Titans defense from 2001-2008. Of course, the Browns have no idea who their next head coach will be.

why would you hire a DC before you hire a head coach?

Because they are going to hire someone like Josh Mcdaniels after his season is over. They fired Chud because they already had someone lined up.

They're stupid for firing Ray Horton. I wish the Saints would pick him up as a LB/DL coach

If it's true they hired Schwartz, then that definitely eliminates Gus. There is no way he goes to a place where he can't hire his own DC. He also isn't going anywhere there is a former NFL head coach on staff.

The Browns are a joke of a franchise and both of the moves over the last few days prove it. Firing your HC after only 1 season is bad enough. Now whoever they bring in is stuck with a DC who he may not want. The only kind of coach who will want to coach there is somebody trying to break in as a HC and if he has any kind of success he will leave asap.

Seriously, what's the less desirable job at this point? Cleveland or the redskins with Snyder meddling?

Add Dallas and Oakland, and you have the Coach's Hell Final Four.

Al Davis is gone, so even though the raiders are still a dumpster fire it's better than it used to be.

As bad as jerry is, if what's reported about Snyder and RG3 is true then not even he approaches that level.

I don't think a quality HC will go somewhere that he can't hire his own staff. Another clown move by Cleveland.

Browns are bringing in Bellichick and Saban to New England. Miles to Texas and Gruden to LSU (he was drooling all over LSU today).
