It's really likely that if Fickell takes the ND job, Freeman goes to Cincy as HC.

I just don't see it.
It's plausible that Notre Dame, despite the promises, tries to wait for Fickel and pisses Freeman off.
But, I don't see how you prevent Freeman from taking the Cincinnati job if that happens.

I don’t think we get as many from that staff as we hoped.
I think it’s a full rebuild.

If Ryan Day leaves for the Bears in January, Fickell leaves Cincy or ND for Ohio State, Freeman probably lands one of those two jobs.
Freeman to Cincy would be the most logical if he wants to be a head coach quickly. I don't see ND giving it to Freeman at this point.

"50/50" is not equivalent to saying "maybe, maybe not, who knows".
Seriously. With my lack of inside information I would have given it maybe a 5% chance of happening, and that's being generous. It being 50/50 means that:
A. He is not a serious candidate for their next head coach.
B. He probably chose ND over LSU for BK more than the school because he 100% could keep being the ND DC regardless of who they hire, and they'd give him a fat raise to keep the recruiting class alive too.
C. Either he's not interested or isn't a serious candidate for any head coaching jobs he'd accept.
If all that wasn't true, there is no way he would even consider coming.

Not what I said.
Maybe not what you meant but it's what you said means. If he leaves next year that just means we're where we're at right now not hiring him next year. Putting any real stock in assistants moving onto better things is fallacious thinking because people Raymond who are elite but content where they are career wise are unicorns. Coordinators are a bit better there than lower level assistants because a top coordinator job is actually better than most G5 HC jobs, but anybody who is remotely on Freeman's level is also going to be a head coach before too long. Not getting however long we can out of him in the meantime is dumb.
