Napier is a good program builder but I think when you get to a level where talent is even like in the SEC, his lack of gameday Xs and Os stands out.

:kige: That’s where he fricked up at Florida. Even with an enormous support staff in place, he refused to turn over play calling duties to an OC

I think this is the most important hire in program history,

This was said after Orgeron too.... every hire is important.

The problem is there is not many "for sure" hires. BK was supposed to be that until it wasn't.

Not being in interviews you really don't know how likely the coach will be successful. I think most hires are based off what the coach's previous record looked like vs. looking at record, intangibles, philosophy, style, etc.

So in short.... all we can do as fans is enjoy guessing and debating all the potential candidates.

Winning at ooh la la and winning at Tulane are two totally different things. Sumrall is the real deal and doesn’t give off vibes that the job is too big for him.

If Napier was in his last year at ULL today with Sumrall in his 2nd year at Tulane, is there really any discussion about who is the better hire? It would be Napier by a mile.

Compare apples to apples. Napier did a better job at ULL than Sumrall has done at Troy and Tulane.

You can't use Napier's time at Florida as any sort of judgment of who is better because Sumrall has not been in the big time.;

It's not apples to apples.. NIL has changed the CFB and Napier didn't deal with that at ULL. I think what is intriguing to most is that Sumrall has been successful but also has been able to navigate getting talent poached and continuing to have success on the field.

Billy is a good HC imo,he acts the part, handles the media well and doesnt do dumb shite to make the program look bad.

BUT

He is a fkn horrible OC and playcaller. And the AD gave him enough rope to hang himself. He did just that

Had he hired a good OC and played the figurehead role, he'd still be employed.
