There absolutely could be some truth in this thread. I live in Chicago and the Bear Management like Crowton a lot. He left to become HC at BYU, but it is entirely possible that they want him to come in and coach Cutler the goof-off -- regardless of his weak development of JJ and JL.
If college level coordinators catch on to his scheme after 3-4 years imaging how quickly professional level coordinators would eat it up.

It took about a half a season. The Bears eventually relieved him of play-calling duties during the season.

I was in Chicago during the Crowton years, I do not recall him being relieved of play calling. Jon Shoop, followed him and was. Bear Mgt., players, and the media liked Crowton -- the OC job got him the position of replacing Lavel the legend at BYU.

I couldn't find anything on his being relieved of play calling but I'm almost positive he was. His 1999 offense was one of the league's worst.

Only to be followed by an equally dismal 2000.

I think it was 2000 when he was relieved. However, I will concede my memory may be playing tricks on me.

I don't think he was relieved. The talent with the Bears on offense was a disgrace. He did pretty well in Chicago. I don't know if he is wanted by the Bears, but they are going to make some changes -- perhaps HC -- at the very least OC and AB coach.
