Even if BG gets promoted to OC, I highly doubt we will see the spread offense for multiple reasons.
It's not the style offense Miles likes to run, and he's not going to replace Crowton with another coach he disagrees with.
Like others have said, the spread won't fly with Mett or Rivers so there's absolutely no reason to impliment an offense that will need to be completely overhauled the following season moving forward.

Mett might not start the oregon game but he will be the QB next year......Other than he wanted to play in the SEC he really just wanted to play...which is why he had to pick between A&M and LSU.....both were struggling at QB......Tannerhill gets the start at A&M half way though the season and they get better...LSU still struggled......Mett picks LSU

so Gonzales will run an offense that he has no idea about since he's spent his entire career under Meyer?

I certainly hope not, but he'll have to win the spot.

Agreed. he's not winning the spot if they want to keep running the QB. We have the talent to where that is not needed, IMO. give it to the talent and let them do the work.

Yeah it makes no sense to do the spread when JJ will be gone next year and Mett will be the QB...not gonna switch back to the offense. All that talent personel package..

Mett is the QB

We now have the potential for a great pro-style offense. I still worry about the O-line being able to pass protect. If that can be consistent, this offense shapes up really nicely with a Mett-type QB. Can JJ or JL run it next year? I don't know.

I don't want us to hire an OC that matches best with JJ. That's too short-sighted. I would rather 2011 suffer a little to get the right guy with the right system for the long term.

So do tell how Chris Leak ran that offense supplemented by Tim Tebow for running QB plays?

Dan Mullen is the answer to that question, and he sure as frick is not leaving MSU for a OC position at LSU lol. Billy Gonzalez was in charge of LSU receivers this year and they dropped more passes per attempt than any group in the last decade. Not sure if I want BG with the reigns.

They wanted the clipboard talent to improve (no offense to TC)?

its not often someone fails at their job and get the big promotion. Maybe he had them sabotage Crowton by being so shitty.

Are you seriously THAT short-sighted???
The man has been an offensive coach in college football for years and you think he knows ONLY one type of offense? You really don't think he can develop a more pro-style oriented offense out of the less complicated power I?
Surely, Miles would NOT hire someone that would put us right back into a similar situation that we had with Crowton. Contrary to what you may believe, he is a smarter football mind than you or anyone else on this site.
Besides, the passing game is his strength. You can certainly develop a deadly passing game out of play action while under center and out of the shotgun.

Maybe he CAN, but his expertise is with the spread/spread option. Wouldn't you prefer to hire someone whose expertise is Pro-Style, instead of having someone adapt to Pro-Style?

Dropped passes could have alot to do with not trusting your QB now...if its not consistent it throws off their timing and thought process, they should still catch it but this could be hurting them....Zack mett is very accurate and has a powerful arm..

Billy G if he does become the OC he will not run the spread

how does being a WR coach under only Urban Meyer for a decade help him become the best candidate or even a decent candidate to help Miles implement a pro style offense at LSU? Because he's been around the game and has certainly bumped shoulders with I form coaches at conventions? LOCK HIM UP!!!

I just don't see how gonzo could change his offensive mindset all of a sudden. I guess it's possible.

Maybe miles thinks he can control the offense more with a yes man OC than someone proven?

I just think LSU doesn't Need to be the training school for OC's

Go find an established proven pro style OC and be done with it

he tried to hire Bill Clay

he hired Mallory and Peveto to follow up a national title season

he tried to make Monken/Applewhite co-OCs

he hired Crowton

Miles would definitely NOT ever hire a shitty undeserving coordinator.

I do agree with you on this Max, I just cannot see why the love for BG. So he was WR coach for a guy who used his WR more like RB's? cool... I guess.

You are right that in the past he made some bad calls. He would admit that... but at least he got the guys to right the ship on defense.

This is his shot to fix the offense. Let's hope he gets it done
