Skip needs to zip it...not sure what his motives are for making these statements. Perhaps he okayed it with Miles before he made the comments. Not sure, but to even suggest that Miles is off the market due to the contract being signed is ridiculous. I find it hard to believe that Miles will leave because he would look worse than Saban, but until Michigan finds another man to coach their team, anything is possible.

The fact that the morons running the show at Michigan have no other names in the hat is really surprising.

Bertman is going to regret these statements regardless if Les stays or not. I can gurantee Les is not happy at the way he is disrespecting Bo.

Skip and NASA are forever tied to the Miles hire and refuse to step aside and let the people who are actually in power now do their jobs. I wish Lombardi would put them both out to pasture.

I think that's really what's going on. The fact that they claimed to have a list of over 20 HC candidates is comical. The only guy they wanted has turned them down and they aren't ready to accept that.

That's possibly the dumbest thing I've ever seen posted here...simply because what I was saying went right over your head.

What do you think the head baseball coach at a major D1 program does, pray tell? In addition to coaching duties, he's primarily an ADMINISTRATOR. He runs a division of the AD in microcosm. Therefore, it follows, you can't be a genius running the baseball end of the athletic program, and suddenly become an idiot once you become AD. Admin skills are admin skills, the only difference is in scope.

I don't think Les ever turned them down officially. Herbie just blew everything out of the water and les was forced to say he hasn't talked to anyone at UM

He didn't turn them down because "he" hasn't talked to him.

Look, Skip has been a good AD in my opinion, GIVEN HIS MARCHING ORDERS.

He was not hired as AD in order to hire great coaches or be a PR specialist. He was brought in to do a tough, thankless job: reorganize the financial structure of the football program, and to keep major building projects on their timelines.

He had to do unpopular things (with some) like taking out the grandfather privileges on the best seats in TS and making those folks pay MARKET VALUE to keep their seats. He oversaw the new upper decks and the securing of luxury suite money from big boosters. He reorganizes the on-campus parking and squeezed even more revenue out of that. He told people to stop parking on the roots of 100-yr-old oak trees.

You get the picture? His tremendous popularity coming in, and his ability to market the baseball program from scratch and to make it profitable, were his main assets. He needed those assets in order to carry out his tough agenda.

Since I'm one of the folks who thinks the revamping of the ticket prices and hiking up tradition funds/TAF was NEEDED... I applaud Skip for carrying out these tough tasks.

All that said, the guy is not good at PR, can be a pain to work with, and has not been given much leeway at all on coaching hires.

He has strengths and weaknesses. One of his weaknesses was exposed in that Detroit F-P article posted. He needs to say less, not more, on this subject.

And the fact that it's been coming since the first game of the season makes them appear even stupider. Unless they're putting all eggs in one very big Lesticles sack. Which is not the wisest move. And people complain about our AD...

I disagree, Skip's doing his job. Michigan's inability to hire, is costing LSU in recruitng a bit, and he doesn't want it to end up costing LSU the NC game.

hmmm, you might have a good point. But, I think Stanley needs to steer clear of mentioning Bo Schembechler or talking in absolutes. Just doesn't come across as the smart strategy.

The buy out is the same. Nothing really changed except Miles has a longer contract if he stays at LSU.
