Article on Glenn Schumann

LINK
Schumann is 30 years old and the co-DC at Georgia. Dan Lanning is the defensive play caller though.
I remember reading an article from when Schumann was a personnel assistant at Alabama saying there were 3 people in the room when they developed the defensive gameplan- Saban, Smart, and Schumann.
I don’t know if we can hire him because he’s been working with Kirby Smart since he was an 18 year old student at Alabama but it’s worth a try. It would be a promotion and a lot more money, his current salary is $550K.

So unknown.
I'd love him as a defensive position coach and Co-DC if a more established DC would be cool with it.
But that would be a lateral move for him and doubtful he'd take it. Guy needs to cut his teeth as a playcaller somewhere.

Lester, Why would you take him over freeman?
I’m on the freeman boat but I also like Schumans pedigree.
I’m putting our differences aside to have a conversation with you because these are the 2 guys that I like the most that have been mentioned thus far

So was Brady. Not entirely in love with his lack of play calling but the fact that he spent much time gameplanning with Saban and Smart is promising to say the least.

Don't like the idea of hiring an al alum, if he's any good he'd go back to tide when they call

STAHP.
That is a very, very rare exception to the experience rule. And Brady had a tenured, experienced OC to help him manage the program. There is more to being a coordinator at a major program than installing and calling plays.

I just prefer those coaching-lifers
Developing their own concepts & responses to modern football. Calling a game & understanding how to adjust with your own concepts & plays.
I just wonder with Freeman how much he leans on Fickell, & fickell’s concepts. The same way Ensminger has to call joe Brady’s plays, and how much of a failure that was.
And how much of Freeman’s true value is associated with recruiting. Ohio St tried to hire him as a LB coach, for instance.

I guess money talks and giving him responsibility of OC would make the decision easier but you think he easily leaves Kirbys side?
What price tag do you put on Schuman? What’s he currently making?

He’s making $550K per a 2019 article I found. The other DC Dan Lanning is making $725K

Lester made some valid points, I dont know why that post was downvoted.

He’s a 30yr old co-dc. Money prob isn’t an issue. I’d think he’d like to run his own D & a slight bump in pay could do it
Freeman is trending to be a HC much sooner. I’d rather hire him as a HC then a DC, tbh

LSU has had the highest paid assistants for like 15 years now. Not saying UGA wouldn’t fight to keep him but nobody has more to give than LSU.

So you’re saying it’ll turn into a bidding war if we go after Schuman? We offer him and give him 1 mil a year y’all gonna beat that?
Posted on 12/22/20 at 11:21 am to ThrGbagman
Yea but you can’t offer him that title, as entrenched as the 3rd guy in the room

if LSU wanted him we would have him. the money issue isn't real at all. That shite is a low level cum guzzler that has been multiple tiffs with the coach peddling bullshite. LSU - TAF is flush with cash. LSU has plenty of boosters with frick you money that can pay.
We did have the highest paid staff for years and years.
We also offer him free control of the D here.
I'm fine with the kid not having any play calling experience, I love the fact that he was in a room with saban and smart and helping game plan.
I think the biggest issue in getting him would be him leaving Kirby.

exactly plus we can offer a legitimate shot a ring. we only have won 3 of them since UGA last won one.
We also took the last wonder boy and made him the hottest name in the NFL. LSU can take him higher than anyone outside of Bama.
He may prefer being Kirbys boy though, but if it came down to money and title we would win.
