Are these fire-hire combos different than Jetgate?

So it seems pretty clear, and in line with previous reports/rumors, that Texas-Herman talks started before Charlie Strong got fired.
If you recall, Bobby Petrino's first big controversy (controversial for Auburn as well) was Jetgate, where Auburn interviewed Petrino for a position that wasn't open. Heads rolled as a result of this being exposed.
What is different between what caused that controversy and Herman being inked day of someone being fired? Same for last year when Jimbo was apparently reached out to while Les was still head coach.

They actually flew to interview him, where with Herman is was done through intermediaries.

i think the difference is that today the schools are smart enough to use skype instead of physically flying to see the guy
