The Saints D was not good but had many injuries. The DLine was not that great and the blame should be on the DC. We are putting too much stock in a DL coach who isnt being hired for his coaching skills (he is being hired for recruiting skills).

Houston Nutts staff did a better job with Ole Miss's D that had Os players than Coach O did. Its not a good hire and I dont think he is a great DL coach.

this is literally one of the dumbest arguments I've seen from a ranter in a while. The logic here is baffling

Lane has been mediocre the WHOLE TIME. When Dorsey wasn't in the game our D-Line did nothing last year. Pelini is a great DC, so that arguement is not true @ all. Karl Dunbar was a much better D-Line coach than Lane. Can someone tell Lane that a bull rush doesn't work every time? If you watch their footwork and technique it has progressively declined since Lane joined. Pelini would actually scream @ him many times during games. Go watch old games. Many instances of that.

You are in the minority here, almost every NCAA team in the country would Love to have O as their DL coach & recruiting coordinator

Coach O's resume only includes one HC stint (OM). Obviously that didn't work out. Apart from that he's done well as a DL coach and recruiter.

Great p/u IMO.

GCS,

The Wiki link you provided supports O's exceptional performance as DL coach and recruiter vis-a-vis his time at Miami and USC. It does not reflect well his ability to perform head coaching duties vis-a-vis his time at Ole Miss.

His duties at LSU will be DL and Recruiting, a good fit IMO.

As for the salary issue. Chavis is a DC who just recieved a raise after being let go. He is also a PROFESSIONAL. I would expect him to honor his contract. If, at the end of his contract, he is able to command more, than he should get more. I do feel that if there is marked improvement in the defense next year, there is the possibility of renegotiation for Chavis to bring his salary on par with O.

there are a few idiots on here who are going to bash you and attack you personally if you so much as dare question the coach o hire. don't worry about them. they are friggin morons. i don't agree with the hire either. they throw up a bunch of lame arguments that they can't prove and tell you that you are the stupid one. coach o has taken on legendary status and has done nothing to deserve it. these are the same morons that when o was at ole miss, were laughing and ridiculing him to no end. and now with no basis for their opinions they are on the coach o bandwagon. it's flat out irrational. i also agree that we don't need help recruiting but that is everyones main reason for wanting him. we have possibly the number one recruiting class coming in so you tell me whether or not we need help. now chris, watch all the usual suspects come on here after i post this and tell me how stupid i am and that my "opinions" are terrible. ready, set, go......
