It matters quite a bit. Compensation equates to status and worth.

If Chavis feels he is worth less than his position coach, there will most likely be issues.

Cite one example where this happened in O's career.

Les Miles & Bo Pelini= Type A personalities.
It'll never work out one working for the other.

Since that didn't work out, I sure it spells doom that Chavis will be O's boss.

Great hire. What he did at USC was great. He did get good players at Ole Miss. Look what Nutt did with his players this season. Maybe just not head coach material.

Spot on.

Coach O is a great recruiter. He brought in some serious talent here at Ole Miss. He was just not head coach material.

chavis and his agent negotiated his contract. They obviously are satisfied with a 200k raise.

people have been saying for a while O would make more than Chavis so I highly doubt this was unknown to him

I like the hire, but I find the hire awkward in the sense that a position coach subordinate will make more money than the DC, but at the same time be an associate head coach. Does that mean that sometimes Chavis is O's boss and sometimes O is Chavis' boss? Just seems odd. That sort of scenario wouldn't work in real world business, I suspect.

Really no different than what was going on at Florida State ... Chuck Amato was LB Coach and arse't Head Coach, while Mickey Andrews was DC. Seemed to work pretty well there when they had a million consectutive top 10 finishes.

Guys, if GCS says this is a bad hire, its a bad hire. this guy is always on the money with pin point analysis and he wasn't born with Purple and gold diapers on.

Absolutely right...

that's why in most companies, disclosing your actual salary is ground for termination.

yeah, he just got fired from his old job. Not retained by the new coach. Offered less money by Clemson and received a $160k raise from LSU over his last job. I'm sure he's pissed.
