it's your argument that's faulty, GCS.

what does the salary matter to you? If LSU doesn't think the money is excessive thats all that matters. There's no salary cap, this doesn't hinder us in anyway

If coach o is making more money that the DC, who is over coach o, you dont think there will be some type of ego issues? I hope it works out and I think it will be the first time something goes wrong it will fall apart fast.

I like the hire, but I find the hire awkward in the sense that a position coach subordinate will make more money than the DC, but at the same time be an associate head coach. Does that mean that sometimes Chavis is O's boss and sometimes O is Chavis' boss. Just seems odd. That sort of scenario wouldn't work in real world business, I suspect.

First of all, Chavis is not some new guy on the block. In the words of Gerry Glanville...This aint his first rodeo. Chavis will have Coach O's utmost respect. And the Associate Head Coach title is just that...a title...and will not carry any real authority over other coaches. I also have a feeling that all parties were OK with the different hirings before agreeing to come to LSU. Chavis HAD to know Coach O was a real possibility as a DL hire...along with his other titles and responsibilities.

And in the words of Saban..

They'll be Aight!

he wasnt that great this year on N.O.

Are you kidding? NO was much improved. They stopped run FAR better than they have in many years. They didn't get a ton of sacks, but I attribute that to the fact they don't have but maybe one true pass rusher anyway, and he's a reserve. Grant and Smith have both underachieved for a couple years, and neither is a speed rusher. They are both bull rushers who stop the run better than they get after the QB.

IMO, he did a fine job at NO.

As long as Chavis and Coach O don't clash, I love the hire. I just think it will be hard for Coach O to take orders from a guy that hasn't even been a HC. I hope Chavis doesn't decide he's not going to put up with the bs and get out of LSU after 1 yr.
Hopefully Chavis will understand that Coach O is the recruiter and Coach O understands that Chavis is the D coach and they compliment each other.

don't think bringing him in is the real issue. My reservation is the reported salary.

It's hard to say how much of an impact he would have on recruiting, especially given we may end up with the #1 class without him.

As for his d-line expertise, I've seen a lot of praise but can't help but think back to his mediocre defenses at Ole Miss.

Have to remeber that we didn't have to recruit against him last year....also, you can NEVER have too many good recruiters!

Great hire. What he did at USC was great. He did get good players at Ole Miss. Look what Nutt did with his players this season. Maybe just not head coach material.

The Saints DL did improve as the season went along. Especially after Grant got injured.

Family friend also.

so, I guess you're also pissed at the Crowton hire since he did not fare so well as HC at BYU.

no bc coaching hires are always made on a whim and those factors are never looked at.

Come on, give Les some credit. I'm sure he has discussed the situation with both Chavis and O, and they are both OK with it. Do you really think he would hire either one without making sure they comfortable with the roles each will play?

we totally low balled chavis, locked him into a contract, and then announced O at a higher salary without his knowledge!
