I hadn’t seen anyone mention this and apologies if it’s already been brought up but Taking Riley from an eventual SEC opponent in Oklahoma weakens our opponent which is an obvious advantage for us.

That’s all

What if Oklahoma hires Aranda?

Not if OU hires a defensive minded coach.

Riley's OU teams didn't compete well with SEC teams. I figure OU might look to someone like Campbell or Aranda. They may get better.

OU is a slightly above avg SEC team. Taking him from OU does not hurt OU that much. It definitely improves LSU’s offense, but also, likely, weakens the defense.

Aranda is locked in at Baylor but yes, it would be bad if Aranda went to Oklahoma

I don't think anyone really gets how devastating this will be for OU football. Not only would they lose a top 3 young coach, but any of his assistants he brings, and possibly recruits as well.

The timing of it also could not be worse for OU. There are already multiple coaching searches underway by big programs including USC and Florida, and they will be last to the party. They are also facing a huge payment to the Big12 if they leave early, which they seem likely to do, and then coming into the SEC with a brand new coach and depleted recruiting classes and depleted financial resources...

Just like when a program gains momentum by winning, it can lose momentum by losing. Unless they have the next Barry Switzer cleaning toilets in the AD's office and just waiting for his chance, they are totally fricked and not just for next year. This could set them back 10 years.

Depends on who they hire.

How could our defense get any worse?

How does this weaken LSUs defense? He’d come into a state that produces top tier talent that is better than anything at his disposal at OU. The problems he’s had at OU had to do with going into Texas and competing with UT and multiple SEC schools for recruits. The financial backing OU puts forth pales in comparison to LSU. I wouldn’t be too concerned about a weakened defense.
