but just IMO, i do think ND needs more of a defensive minded coach than say a brian kelly.

Yeah, I don't know if Kelly is the answer either though I do like him as a coaching possibility (in general, including LSU). It just seems that Kelly has been on this fated path toward ND for awhile as he gets brought up all the time.

Agreed, I found this season weird because I couldn't quite put my finger on what they were doing so poorly to lose all those games.

I still stand by Stoops being an odd choice

He's Catholic, he's from the mid-West, he's already rebuilt one traditional power back into a monster, and he's got one of the best 2-3 resumes in college football. But he's an odd choice?

I don't think ND would be satisfied with the results of Stoops or Tressel honestly.

Stoops does NOT strike me as an elite coach.

......because he isn't an elite coach. He won a title with another guy's recruits. He is Larry Coker.

Since the recruits have all been his, he has struggled with Texas and has blown every bowl game.

Stoops needs a change of scenery and OU needs a change at coach. If Stoops goes to ND I can't image the meltdown if ND loses it's first BCS bowl game to say Boise State.

and yet he's won 3, big12 titles in a row

and he struggles with bowl games b/c he plays better teams than other teams in his overrated conference

Ok, so because he wins his over-rated conference pretty regularly then he's totally qualified to coach at ND? You think Stoops can beat USC consistently at ND?

who else is available with his resume?

the only other viable elite candidate is kelly. i seriously doubt meyer is going there, and all this stoops smoke makes me think ND realizes this and isn't even trying

naw, but ND doesn't exactly have the same recruiting area that USC does

I don't know but I don't think money is an option there. They could probably entice almost anyone there with the right money-(tradition, academics, recruiting) I seriously doubt Meyer is going there as well but I would think they try to entice guys like Meyer, Saban, or Dungy there before going after Stoops. That's just my opinion.

And I just don't know about that. We have different opinions on that one. I think that the next coach will need to beat USC at least half the time. And they have some pretty solid other games on their schedule too typically.

If ND were willing to wait till after the NCG, I think he'd be more willing to listen. There was no way he was leaving at any point Tebow was still there IMO.

i think you overrate what ND can do in recruiting RIGHT NOW

the biggest area this hurts ND in, imho, is the DL

not really, that's exactly why I think they might be able to lure in guys with a huge ego like Saban or Meyer if they were willing to pony up.

Even now while ND is down and the media's bitch, when ND coaches enter a high school anywhere in the country, people take notice.

who the hell is actually arguing stoops isn't elite?

i think the big 12 is as overrated as the next guy, but any coach who consistently dominates his competition = elite.

Unfortunately I have to take credit for that minor over-statement.

I just don't know if I put him in a top 5 right now. I don't mean he's a shite coach. I just don't know if he's that highest possible echelon that I believe ND to be trying to find.

Schefter pulled a Herbstreit. He is now reporting on Twitter that he was wrong about to Stoops to Notre Dame. I'm from Oklahoma and there are some of us who were actually hoping he would leave.

Also funny.

Just barely second to recruiting, I love to follow the coaching changes every year.

People I listened to you yesterday about Bob Stoops were wrong. He is not leaving Oklahoma. I'll go back to sticking with NFL now.

More Notre Dame chatter (why am I doing this?) Tony Dungy not interested, ND not interested in Brian Kelly, hire will have defensive resume.
