Stoops does NOT strike me as an elite coach. He seems to struggle with the same things that ND has struggled with in recent years.
ND = the most arrogant asswipes of all time

he's not reporting that? he's writing on a social networking site what he has heard...

Wow, Oklahoma was at the bottom of the Big 12 when Stoops took over you do realize that?
With all due respect to Kelley he is a great coach but he has never won a BCS game or been in a remotely tough conference. ND needs some defense of help and just saying Stoops has been producing some great defenses for the past 2 decades. Since when did Stoops become a bad coach?

Do you think that had any relation to their time on probation?
And now Stoops doesn't exactly have them rolling over the Big 12 every year, does he? He's good for 8-10 wins and nothing in a big bowl game. That doesn't cut it for Notre Dame.

Chicken, with all due respect, how many bowl wins or conference and national titles before this season?

He's 4-6 in bowl games(5 of the losses were in BCS games), has 1 National Championship, and 6 Big 12 titles. Also has 8 10+ win seasons in 11 years, and 7 top 10 finishes. Besides this year, the other 2 seasons where he finished outside the top 10, he finished #11 and #22.
Anybody who doesn't believe Bob Stoops is an elite coach, is quite simply fricking stupid. Only Meyer, Carroll, and maybe Tressell have the resumes to match.
Also, I still like Miles and am proud of his 4-0 record in bowls, but bowl-record is a terrible way to judge a coach. Unless it's for the NC, those games are not as meaningful as most conference games. Winning the conference and losing the Fiesta Bowl >>>> finishing 3rd in conference and dominating the Peach.

When you throw in this year, I'm not sure that record is acceptable at LSU. From what I read, anyway.

Well lets see yes he has lost a lot of BCS bowl games in a row but that doesn't make him a bad coach or an average coach. His teams have lost to better teams outside of Boise State. But how about lets look at the numbers shall we?
Comming into this his 11th season as Head Coach at OU his record is 109 wins & 24 losses. Thats a winning % of 82%. He has won one National Championship and has taken his team to 3 other National Title games. So he has had his team in the National Championship game 4 TIMES. Thats more than anyone else thats in coaching right now. He has won six Big 12 titles and taken his teams to 7 BCS Bowls since 2000. I'm sorry but it's hard to find a better resume for anyone coaching in Division 1 right now. He is by far one of the best coaches in America. Just facts.

would you consider 6 Big XII championships since 2000 "rolling over the Big XII"?

That's fine and all, and I certainly would take his record here at LSU (except that he likely wouldn't have the same results in the SEC). But we're talking Notre Dame where every tiny detail is under a microscope.
I still stand by Stoops being an odd choice. I don't think ND would be satisfied with the results of Stoops or Tressel honestly. I just don't. They want undefeated seasons and regular top 5 rankings with national titles.
And I'm no more ranter than you are egg.

People always think the grass is greener with someone else. Mac is a huge name all of a sudden, but until lately he didn't have Stoops' resume, but he's the greatest coach all of a sudden.

indeed.
but just IMO, i do think ND needs more of a defensive minded coach than say a brian kelly.
the talent is there to succeed now if they get the coaching in place.

people here a 100% sure he isn't going to ND. who knows, but he would be a good choice for them.
