I think you can certainly make a valid argument that Texas, Florida, and USC are better set up than A&M, you could even add a couple more names to the list. Of course all of those schools have national titles in the last decade whereas A&M has floundered and that is the point in that A&M has dreadfully underperformed. Realize A&M didn't have a losing season from '83-2002 and won 7 Conference Titles in those 20 years (not counting an undefeated '04 season). It wasn't a fluke. All the pieces are there for someone to come in and be successful. The point is there is no reason A&M has basically been a .500 team for a decade, it should be a Top 10-15 program consistently with the ability to break through for more on occasion.

The point on the 250 miles is if A&M got just half of the top recruits from that area in any given year it would be the #1 recruiting class in the country. That's a nice home field advantage for any coach to start recruiting with.

Plus, Sumlin is not a good coach. HAs never beaten anyone worth a damn like BOise has

2 years ago he upset #5 ranked Oklahoma State (in Stoolwater) and Texas Tech, back to back. That is pretty damn impressive for a team like UH. That being said, I prefer Fedora, Strong or Smart.

So far it looks like Strong and Fedora the clear leaders with Sumlin and Smart trailing badly. Thanks for the input, it's good to hear some new perspectives.

I'd definitely go with Fedora, he is a hell of a recruiter and runs a good offense. Only problem is his defenses have been sub par at USM so the aggies would need to invest in a good d-coordinator which I know they have the funds to do.

Would feel so much better about Sumlin if we were staying in the Big 12. I think he would be a lights out no brainer in that situation. With the right defensive staff, he still may be successful in the SEC, because he has shown that he can tailor his offense to match his talent on hand, but he would be my frontrunner if we were staying in that crap conference.

before too long, I'm betting a few fired coaches end up hooking up with saban in the future -- ie Williams.

SOME people "Get It."

Just watch next season. Houston will start to regress minus Keenum. They'll be like Auburn without Newton, (Nothing special and barely above 500) showing that Sumlin is nothing special just like Malzahn isn't without a "Special" player.

This. This. This. His stock dropped dramatically after the cusa championship loss.

Charlie Strong all the way. Whom the rumor mill says will be A&Ms new coach. Our athletic department has wisely sealed its door over the process much like it should always be. But that doesn't stop the speculation!

The last time Sumlin had to coach without Keenum, he won what? 3 games for the year?

Hate to lose him, but I would say Kirby Smart. Need some D in the SEC and he knows how to do it.

With a Fedora/Zook combination, I'd hire them & then RAKE in the talent. Just hire a Holgorson/Leach disciple & let them run Spread, & then sit back & watch Zook reel in the Nation's #1 Spread QB every year.

Seriously, Zook as a Coordinator would LOCK UP Texas with his ability to recruit.

I think many Aggies agree with a lot of you. Strong or Fedora.

I just cannot convince myself that Sumlin is the right guy for the SEC.

I like Fedora because he has a great offense, but also a pretty good defense that just shut UH down. He is also a good recruiter with very good ties to Texas. Strong is also a good candidate because you know he ran the defense at UF (unlike SMart where we dont know), has HC experience, and is an excellent recruiter.

IMO, Fedora is very likely to end up at A&M or UNC.

I would go with Strong. Ties to the SEC and Defense minded.

I can't see the Aggies hiring a black coach (Sumlin). Next thing you know, they'll be allowing women to drive on campus.
