I think most of them probably do, but we're talking about a call made in the heat of the moment after an ugly loss by one board member. If the guy is not a board member then it probably does not matter because he's not able to represent Auburn in an official capacity.
Anyway, I'm now hearing that this is confirmed at the highest levels from some other people that I know are well connected at Auburn. I think this is very likely to be true.

Im not saying Sexton should be restricted in anyway, but it seems like conflicts of interest follow him around like his shadow.

Not really. His interest lies in getting his client the best deal possible. He has no loyalty to any universities, only his client. He's damn good at his job.

all things considered this story sounds completely plausible and highly likely
the most important thing to remember is that the Board member probably knew what his phone call to Nutt would do because he wanted Tubby out. Calling Nutt (whose agent is the same as Tubby's) say instead of Les Miles (whose agent is George Bass) is the perfect way to make sure Tubby is gone.

I hadn't thought about it from that angle but if the board member wanted Tubbs fired and thought it would not happen on his timetable this is one way to achieve the same result.

and with a weak AD and all the power in Lowder's hands anyway what difference would it make if it came out? If they wanted tubby out bad enough (and jetgate would indicate that they do) then a little negative publicity would be worth it

Ok, I have to have a good laugh over this. My original post from the 16th has been lifted and copied in large measure and posted on the Bleacher Report as an article on the 16th by someone named Larry Burton, a so-called analyst. I must be the "Benny" listed in his article, but I don't even know Burton. I'm guessing he must be one of our Auburn members or lurkers at least.
I discovered this because I got an email from an Auburn buddy of mine with the text in it. I read it and emailed him that I FREAKIN' WROTE (most of) THAT. The article has nearly 20,000 views so I guess I'm kinda e-famous anonymously now. Thanks Larry, but at least refer to me as Pax when you steal my posts. Benny sounds like a 70s coke head.

that is awesome, looks like he took the gist of your story, made some phone calls and got some more corroboration and just spackled the whole thing together

Actually, this would explain why AU paid the buyout but claimed Tubbs resigned and why Tubbs would stay silent on the issue. I would not be surprised if a confidentiality agreement was signed and Tubbs allowed AU to say he "resigned" so that they could try to save face. Of course, Tubbs also knows that the rest of the world would not believe the "right thing to do explanation". I would guess that the Tubbs does not take another job until next season (he gets the entire $5.1m within the next 12 months) on the off chance that there is a reduction clause in there if he takes another job.
It gets Tubbs out of AU and able to be very selective about his next coaching opportunity.
My guesses are:
This Season:
If he wants a job this season Arizona --- if the rumors about Stoops bolting to Iowas State are right.
The NFL? There may be as many as 10 vacancies this year. Do they hire a coach like Tubbs despite the recent lack of success by college coaches?
If he does not get a job this season he may pass on the TV gig to avoid the inevitable questions about his resignation.
Next Season:
Texas A & M. Unless Sherman burns it up in recruiting I doubt he stays there long with Tubbs watching Oprah all day.
Michigan. Another losing season buries RR. Players are transferring again. It seems that he cannot get control of that program and that is surprising. However, I doubt he has another losing season.
UF. Don't laugh. I fully expect Meyer's dream job to be open next season.
ND. Meyer isn't a total idiot. He stays at Florida. Tubbs is handed the keys to the Golden Dome.
USC. Does the lure of the NFL bring Carroll back to the Chargers? There are faint rumors that the Chargers will try. This could also go under this season.

Some of it is just straight up copy and paste. This should be a lesson for all of us about believing what you read on the Internet. This went from my Auburn relatives trading info this past weekend while wasting space on my couch to getting 20,000 page views on a prominent sports blog. I believe it to be true, but at this rate ESPN will be reporting it by next week.

the team you are missing is UMFla, he would be a strong candidate to replace Randy Shannon unless RS can turn things around there in year 3

I could definitely see Tubbs going back to Miami and raising it to a level of success if Meyer bails to ND and leaves the recruiting door open.

Though I think Miami might be Tubby's preferred next gig, I doubt that job will open up for a couple years unless they just tank next year.
