ETA: Also not sure where people are getting the impressive interview thing. He doesn't come across like Peetz in terms of enthusiasm, for example.

Where's the interview, LP? LINK, I missed it.

He's also young and ambitious, which I think we all wanted.
Let's give him some great position coaches to add on top of Raymond and let's just root for the guy to succeed.

Williams from Aubrun (sic on purpose) would be a great hire and could help w/recruiting. Somehow, this DJones hire for DC just made me realize that recruiting is my #1 overall concern about the program...Hmmmmm.
At any rate, I hope he's got guys in mind for LB's & DL already. Hell---same as the DC job---any coach worth his salt would drool at the thought of coaching up Maason, Ali, Roy, experienced and young LB's, and a top 5 class including 2 or 3 stud safeties coming in!
One thing we know about our new DC. He's not wishy-washy about stepping up and betting on himself. Let's hope he's able to impart that quality to his players and they learn to use that confidence responsibly to honor themselves, their teammates, the University and the State of Louisiana, on and off the field.

Look, there’s no sugar coating his resume. It’s not good.

This is what really pisses me off. I want to believe but there is nothing out there that says this is a smart move.

1 year

Which is 1 year more than you understand about this hire. Bet you were one of those Nielsen, Schumann and Arnett guys all whom had not one day of experience as a DC anywhere. At least Jones was a DC in high school and college and was actually assistant head coach at Hawaii. He is apparently a great recruiter and has an understanding of the cultures of S Louisiana.

He checks 10 times more boxes than those 3.

By all accounts he's a good DB coach

Yeah, we already have a great one of those who is also the RC. The only way the HC and new DC can loose my support---and I mean in a heartbeat---is to farq up what Raymond is already doing.

Aranda did the same with Bill Busch. That doesn't mean he has any business being the DC of a Top 15 college program. By all accounts he's a good DB coach but that's where it ends.

WOW yet one more clairvoyant on this board. So YOU know it ends at being a good DB coach. How do YOU know that? Are YOU and Jones buddies do YOU know more about him than O and others?

Well since YOU know things that will happen before it happen could YOU tell me who will win the Kentucky Derby next year so I can get rich?

So tell me how well the anointed best college DC in Venables faired the last two NC games?

1. Nielsen has Coordinating experience (Conn. St and N. Illinois)
2. Arnett is currently a coordinator.
3. Go look at Hawaii’s record when he was assistant HC (not DC) and tell me that’s a good thing.

I dont Want to rag on this hire but again, being Bowie State DC in 2009 means fricking nothing to me. Being a high school coach means nothing to me

This guy is a wild card. He could be really good, but he’s definitely not a strong resume hire.

You have it wrong. He's a journeyman that doesn't stick around anywhere. If he's so highly thought of why does he stick around nowhere? Not only that regardless of what tough situation he's in the secondary he has coached has went to shite. You want to see improvement there from a young guy showing he can overcome odds to make them better. It does not show that. Nothing he has done is impressive and if they're paying him a whopping 2.5 million for what they could've got for that money then oh boy.

He could turn out great who knows but just looking at it from the eye test his history there's absolutely nothing impressive about this guy. If you digged into Peetz you could see he was highly respected. The only thing I'm seeing here is Aranda recommending him and considering O basically shite on Aranda when he left maybe he's recommending this guy to do the same.

What the Frick does that have to with coordinating a Championship caliber Defense in the SEC?

Are we hiring a Defensive Coordinator or a Cultural Anthropology Professor?
