Obviously, like the coaching hire, you don't have a choice.

IF he were to ever sign a contract with LSU, it better have stipulations to make him keep his head shaved and not let that tumbleweed haircut flop out the top of a purple visor.

That Big Ern might be the greatest gif usage of all time.

Don't want him at LSU, but the dude is an awesome coach.

How do you guys not remember him and all the Silence of the Lamb memes?

Ok, so while I admit this all started as a tongue in cheek (and bottle in hand) nod to the coach of the day tendencies of the CCB, I also have to admit that I was a fan of Holgerson back in 2012 when the rumors of Miles leaving were circulating.
So seeing the impressive run he’s putting together at Houston really got me looking into him and his history.
Obviously his time as an OC/QB coach under some of the most innovative offensive minds in football is extremely impressive.
After a promising start, his time as a HC at WVU was decidedly middling. Doing some reading, it’s a consistent thought that the move to the Big 12 really hurt WVU’s ability to recruit, as the geographic removal from the conference’s base hurt him with both local and Big 12 centered recruits.
There is also the talk, evident in this thread, about his supposed drinking issues.
The only thing I’ve found are some articles from early 2011, when Holgerson was hired as OC and HCIW under Bill Stewart. Throughout that offseason, there was friction within the AD and between the two, and Stewart eventually resigned after reports that his camp was leaking stories to smear Holgerson, and he stepped in as HC and went on to win the Big East and drop 70 on Clemson in the Orange Bowl.
The next year WVU moved to the Big 12 and things floundered.
Anyway, here is a fun article that goes through the six “incidents” that allegedly occurred over 10 years ago, before he became HC: (spoiler alert: it’s a nothing burger)
"Too Much To Drink And Chasing Pussy": A Tour Of The W.V. Bars In Which Dana Holgorsen Allegedly Got Shitfaced
But Holgerson realized the limitations at WVU in the Big 12, and took the initiative to move to a school where his history in the Big 12 and Texas could allow him to fully showcase his potential. And it’s safe to say he’s done just that.
Luke Fickell is a favorite of many on this board, and Holgerson’s program will likely get a chance to show how it stacks up against Fickell’s in a couple of weeks when they play for the AAC Championship
Bottom line, there is no real controversy with him, and I think Holgerson should be added to the second tier of coaches to be considered for an interview if we miss on the big fish.
This is the answer to the offensive guru model that should absolutely be the next step for LSU if Riley falls through and Kiffin is deemed untouchable.
It’s Dana Day baws
